Excessive Leather Treatment? (Buttprint,Cracking)

My 05 is showing excessive almost crack like status on corners of stitches. Driver's left bolster is looking really bad as well as right seatback has several cracking like sympthoms.

I began applying more and more leather conditioner lately. I'm doing it every weekend now. Is there such a thing as giving excessive leather treatment? Is having too much oil on leather bad thing? What else can I do about TL's leather?

I have a cracklike pattern developing on the drivers left bolster, im guessing it's from plopping down on the seat/edge there so often.

I dont think you will hurt it with conditioner every 2 weeks or so, but I also am not sure it will help. The leather/vinyl just seems to be a little susceptible to marking and that's about the end of it as far as I can tell.

Same here about the left bolster. I imagine you can over-condition. You really want too avoid getting the leather to a point where it is saturated and always "wet". I think this will cause it to weaken and be more susceptible to damage. Leather will show wrinkles and other marks. It's just the way it is. Look at your shoes. Do they have creases where they bend? I'm sure they do. Once a month is probably all you need.

BTW - I've seen some posts that suggest the side bolsters are not leather, just the perforated sections. Also saw a post that suggested the leather has a "coating" of some sort on it. I don't know if either are true.

I also have to consider region where I live is extremely dry. I try to be careful when I get in and out of driver's seat to not rub left bolster. I believe bolsters are leather as any vinyl parts in the car doesn't have any wrinkles. Thanks for advices, please keep them coming.

Actually the bolsters are in fact leather up to a certain point; you can feel the difference between the part where it touches you and near the back of the seat. Not too sure about the coating.

p.s. I love your dog!

I've had the cracking on the driver's left bolster too. Dealer replaced the driver's seat back 3 times, each time the seat back had rips in it. Keeping my fingers crossed that I don't get the cracking again.

I think Acura has used a very cheap grade of leather especially for a "luxury" car. I have 3K on mine and already it looks like 50K. My Explorer had 99K when I sold it and the seats were still in good condition.

The only solution in the end may be to have them recovered with a different leather.
