engine start

hey guys,

Can the battery die in 2 or 3 years? I have no amps or anything that can overuse the battery. It is hard to start the engine and when i turn the ignition off, i hear some hissing sound in the back. Then, after i start once i turned it off and in the next try, the engine wouldn't start. it would make some clicking sound. can it be a spark plugs what is wrong? Anybody had this problem? my car is 2004 and i bought it used this april. i assume it is the battery but if anybody had this problem could you let me know?

Thanks in advance,

I literally just had a new interstate battery put in due to a dead cell in my original battery. Bought the car new in June 2004.

So it wouldn't surprise me that you could have a bad cell or two in the stock battery from 2004. The clicking is a result of the dead battery; it's not sending enough juice to the starter, which is doing the clicking.

The back hissing sound is generally the fuel pump charging/discharging. Generally, of course.

Replace the battery with the Interstate version - it's more powerful anyways. You should be fine.

Yes, the battery can die within 2-3 years. See discussion in https://acurazine.com/forums/showthread.php?t=145105

Avoid replacement with another stock battery, too!

One thing the heat here in Phoenix does is eat batteries. Big time. You may get 4 years out of a battery, but you would be on borrowed time. Two to three years seems to be the safe maximum you can go.
