Electrical Help

Need some help. My car likes to be completely dead sometimes. Not when I am driving, but when I try and start the car. Like the battery was gone. I had this problem earlier because the positive side connector was to loose, and corroded. I replaced the connector with a new one and took off all the corrosion. Was fine for a while then started doing it again, everything comes back when I pop the hood and wiggle the positive terminal of the battery, because the connector is tight already. Its very random, anybody have any thoughts? Thanks

You may have a defective battery because you shouldn't be able to wiggle the negative or positive post.

i just realized u said it only happens sometimes, then its your connection. think about it: it starts perfect sometimes, and other times its completely dead? a bad battery or alternator would mean TOUGH starting, but not completely dead. check your connections, all of them.

not only that, but the wiring may be corroded internally so the OP will probably need a new cable then, especially since he said the connections are tight (normally the wires do not corrode, BUT when the corrosion gets bad enough at the terminal, it can and will start working it's way down the cable itself)(and the cable is still intact enough for the normal power draw of the car, but as soon as you put the draw of the starter on the cable, it quickly becomes a bottleneck with it's resistance)

and yes considering the OP just has to play with the connection area some to get it to start, more then likely he has already narrowed down where the issue is

Thanks for all the input, I remember when I replaced the positive connector that the corrosion was traveling up the wires. Didnt know how far it went up. Anybody know where those wires lead too.

number 8 and 11, about $40 plus tax (dirt cheap if you ask me, especially for complete cables), and the negative one goes straight to the chassis, and the positive side goes to the starter and fusebox

btw doable check the car i had entered, cause all i know is a 3g TL
