Effed up rear brakes.

I bought my TL with 46k on it. I noticed that the rear rotors were grooved and warped...odd for that low mileage. While replacing the rear rotors, I noticed that the pads had been replaced already. And they were already worn about 2/3rds. The front pads are factory. Why would my rear brakes wear so much faster? Does it sound like both calipers might be dragging, or the master cylinder isn't letting them retract? The rotors had that anodized color like they had gotten HOT. Seems odd to have had the rears replaced before 40k, and especially before the fronts.

Could be a stuck caliper. Wouldn't be the first time.

You're right, the rears should wear as long - probably longer - than the fronts.

I had the same issue, back wore out before the fronts. However, in your case it sounds like someone was lazy and didn't turn or replace the rotors when they did the pads. I think if you want it fixed and fixed right, you need to replace both.

I actually just got my rear brakes replaced too this past weekend. The front's still have about 60% left. Don't really understand why the rears went out first...

All newer Honda cars use Electronic Brake Force Distribution logic in the braking systems. This means the car can actually decide to add more braking force to the rears to minimize the nose dive syndrone from the past-or to stop more quickly. This system may possibly contribute to faster rear pad wear. I would guess a better rear pad than oem will likely last much longer.

On the rear calipers-I had to have both rear calipers on my 06 TL service last year due to slight pad drag and marking on the rotors. Tech found that the caliper slider pins had corrosion and not enough grease. All they did was clean up the pins and regrease (something we can all do ourselves with the DIY from the 3G garage). Rotor marking cleared up in about 300 miles of normal driving.

I bought new ceramic pads for the rear today, going to do them tomorrow maybe I will find some reason for dragging. Fingers crossed
