Ecu Reset? Anyone?
Ecu Reset? Anyone?
Hi guys I feel that my car is not as responsive as it used to be when I had first got it, and I was wondering if anyone knew how I could reset my ECU...I understand that unhooking the battery won't do the job as it has its own internal battery...
Anyone?
Thanks

easy disconnect the battery(cables have to be disconnected from battery first) and touch the postive cable to the neg cable to drain the rest of the joose in the cables and reconnect, you will have to reset everything
I have always done the following to reset the ECU.
1. Disconnect the - Negative Battery Cable
2. Allow the car to sit at least 30-45 mins. (I usually just do it in the morning and come back to it whenever)
3. Reconnect - Negative Battery Cable
4. Start the car but don't touch anything at all. Just start it and let it run for 10 mins or so just enough for the ECU to learn the cold start, let it idle down and warm up.
5. Turn the car off and remove the key from the ignition.
6. Start the car again.
7. Drive it like you stole it.
8. ????

And why would anyone think resetting the ecu would fix a problem?
Cars with the automatic transmission are supposed to learn the driving habits they say, I am not sure if you can actualy feel the difference or not.
I would suspect other things like low tire pressure, bad gas (many stations put regular in all the tanks), winter formulated gas, dirty air filter (one person found a plastic bag in the filter box, I had a big leaf), etc.
