ebay lid spoiler coming untaped!

After only a month or so the ebay Trimking spoiler I got is starting to lose grip. The left side, maybe 1-2 inches of the spoiler is untaped, and has no stick left to it. If I press it down it just pops back up a milimeter or so. It only lifts up a tiny bit if you pull lightly, and is not really visible, but it worries me that it will get worse.

What can I do to safely remove it without cracking the paint on either it or the car, and then re-tape it with better quality stuff? I'm afraid if I just pull it I will crack paint becuase of the flex, or peel something off the car trunk.

I asked them for an extra stripe of tape in the center, and mine has never come off after 6 months.

You can use a hair drier to heat it up and patience to remove it. Another trick is to use dental floss that you use like a saw. Dental floss will not damage the paint but there will remain tape on both the spoiler and the lid that will need to be removed and cleaned. A good Auto Body Shop Supply Shop in your area should be able to reccomend the proper stuff to make this easy. While you are there, ask them for wax remover and for the 3M double side tape that you will need to re-apply that spoiler.

Before you go and apply the new tape, get some wax remover to completely remove the wax in the area where the tape will be applied. Do both the spoiler and the trunk lid.

99.9% of the time, tape becoming unglued is because of improper surface prep.

Best regards from Montreal
