E-Brake Question

I have a '07 TL Type-S, and something happens everytime I engage my e-brake. Whenever I engage it, it "gives" a little before fully stopping. For instance, if I park on an incline, the car will move back an inch or two before coming to a stop. The same is true if I park on a decline. I know that in steep grades, the brakes are bound to give some, but I'm talking about normal everyday situations, where it doesn't matter how hard I engage the e-brake, it still moves before stopping. This is true even if I leave my car in-gear when I park. It didn't seem normal to me, and I recently got my "A2" service done, and they adjusted the e-brake during that service. I thought that would take care of the problem, but it still exists. It gets on my nerves, but it's something I can live with. Has anyone had this issue before? Any thoughts?

I have an 07 Type-S and noticed the same thing. When I first got the car it drove me nuts because every other car I have owned the car didn't drift when I applied the parking brake. I think this is just normal for this car.

There have been a couple of forums on this topic and others seem to experience the same thing. I was concerned that my parking brake wasn't working but when I set the brake and then put the car in neutral on an incline or decline, the brake holds the car.

I've had my TL-S since January and have gotten used to it working this way and never got it adjusted at the dealership.

They are just little drum brakes inside the rear rotors
Apply first- then park in gear
Learn to curb your wheels
If the dealer touched it and its not right- back it goes!

im pretty sure thats not "normal" my E brake used to be really nice and would hold sturdy but after a while it became loose. During one of my services the even tensioned it up. I know how they did it, but its back loose again. If anybody knows how to tighten it back up please let me know cuz i dont feel like going to the dealership again...

good advice vin- that saves the trans from getting stuck loaded-weighted in a gear- especially automatics.

Back to the old story- the park brakes are tiny drum brakes housed inside the rear rotor.
You adjust them via a star wheel- accessed via rubber plug on center of rotor. Old School.

The trick is, to do it correctly- you need to remove the caliper and brake pads- turn the rotor and listen for contact, then x amount of clicks tighten from there
Its easy to wear the ~shoes~ out if brake left on and pulled out of the driveway numerous times

I dont know how the dealer adjust them at service, newer cars and manual trans often have an adjuster next to the park brake handle if its center console mounted- push the rubber aside and look there
