Driver door weatherstrip

So it's the part that's on the door frame of the car and not the door itself. Anyone know how much this part cost and how easy it is to install? I started pulling it off yesterday and it seems like that's all it does around the whole frame of the door. Getting to the side where it's under the dash would be tricky though.

There's a tear on this part of it. Which is why I want to replace it

I also didn't think the rubber and the taupe color part was one piece until I started pulling it off.

It's PITA. You need to remove all the plastic trim around the door opening.

The trim is mostly snap in unless there's something mounted on top. Like grab handle or seat belt anchor points.

From top going clockwise. For reference only.

Remove grab handle if present. Remove trim by pulling straight down... perpendicular to body. Note parts maybe layered on top of each other so remove top piece first of course.

B piller. Remove seat belt anchors. Remove trim straight in towards car.

Sill area... bottom. Pull straight up to remove trim.

A post windshield. Remove or release (the pin may not detach-look for a sweet spot to release the trim) the push pin at top then pull trim straight in towards center of car to release at top then up and towards center of car to release lower part..

Lower area by dash/kick panel. Pull hood release and hold in open position. Pull the trim back and towards the center of car to release.

And that's it... lol

When you go to install the weather strip it may be larger than the opening so you'll need to compress it as you feed it into the pinch weld at the same time.

Holy crap, it'd be that complicated? I was just starting to take off different parts (the bottom, the side by the seatbelt, and close to up top) just to check it out and it seemed pretty easy.

Guess I'll leave it be. It didn't leak when we got rain here, doesn't seem to be losing any air in the cabin.

I mean when I took those pictures, you can see I pulled it out already and I didn't remove any plastic trimmings or anything. The strip just lines up with frame and you push in and it stay secure.

On my 07 that seal comes off and goes back on with no problem. The area around the dash can be tricky, but it's not too bad. I found that seating the seal right next to the dash area and then sliding it into place worked well. It's about $70 to $80 for a new one.

So no removal of any plastic parts yes? Just taking it out and pushing the seal back in? (I should take a picture of the whole thing just to clarify more)

Did you get your part from the dealer? I don't even know what the part number is.

You are correct. if you yank it out you can just shove it right back with a little fiddling. 72355-SEP-305ZA is the part number for a black interior. you can just call a dealer and ask about your interior color. the last letter in the part number is for different colors. I find eBay has the best prices on stuff like this.

How about you try this stuff? If I tore some seals it's what I'd try first.

Thanks! I'll take a look into it. Appreciate the help.

I had no idea this stuff existed, maybe I'll give it a shot before replacing the whole unit for about 20x the price of this tube.

I didn't take a picture of the seal at a good angle, but it's a pretty good size tear. I imagine the previous owner's bags may have caught the seal multiple times. Buying the car from her she did have quite giant purses or bags and saw them even getting caught on the door of her other car....

edit: wow, $15 for shipping to my zip code. Maybe I'll stop by the dealer...

Wow indeed! Try eBay. There's a bunch on there. Some with free shipping. Your dealer will likely need to order.

Here's a better angle of the tear. I should probably put something behind it then use the cement stuff. I do plan on going this route.

ooh. Is that a tear or are whole chunks torn out? Kinda looks like it's missing a good bit. If missing chunks I don't see any way around replacing it. Anything you put in there could mess up how the door closes and make the sealing action worse. Plus I don't think the weatherstrip cement is for bridging gaps but rather bonding edges together.

Yeah it's a good tear chunk I guess lol. Looked at it a bit more if I were to cement it, it would definitely be more of a process than just dabbing it on there and letting it dry. I'd have to do layers.

Think I'll just opt for a new replacement. Appreciate the tip though.

Might not even replace it at all, I don't hear any extra wind noise, water doesn't get in when it rained (who knows when we'll get rain again), and don't feel that I'm losing any cabin temperature because of it.
