Does this estimate seem reasonable?

My sister lost control of my TL while avoiding a deer when doing 40MPH. Since the road is elevated she kind of "flew off" the road and took out a small tree and landed in a clearing (or field).

At first she said it was hit and run but then we got the truth. All I could do was . All my parents could do was :t antrum:: ugh:

One bodyshop quoted $7000 to fix the damage. However this does not seem reasonable at all to me. He is saying the frame is bent. I am not sure how that is possible. My friend ran over a curb in his TSX and caused a bunch of suspension damage and needed a new tire/rim and that only came out to be $2500.

We are debating to go through insurance or not. Have been accident free forever and we have accident forgiveness. But still would like to maintain a clean driving record.

My question is, possible to cause $7k in damage from landing in a small field while going 40MPH? (bent frame). If so what are the long term effects this can have?

Is going to Acura better or going to a bodyshop? The car made the 5 hour trip from NY to Baltimore fine without any issues. Steering does not pull left or right.

if your frame is bent it is going to cost you a grip to fix it.........it all depends how the damaged the car is, how much is going to cost you....get a second opinion or just take the car to the dealer........

if you are in NYC i can get you a quote.

You would be better off turning it in to the insurance. They will have you take it to a bodyshop (you can choose one if you have a favorite). Normally the dealer does not have a bodyshop (around here anyway). By turning it in to your insurance company, you will have more leverage with the bodyshop not over charging you and making sure that the repair work is done to your satisfaction. In my opinion, anyway. Good Luck!

HA. Took it to another body shop they quoted $4200. The $4200 includes painting the hood and quarter panel. That is NOT needed. PDR will work fine. They said the frame is not bent. LOL. Not sure who to believe.

After seeing the bumper I know I can attach it myself. As soon as I get back to NY the first thing I am going to do is reattach the bumper. I highly doubt a tire rod is bent. The car is still driving straight without any issues. It just made a 5 hour journey from NY>Baltimore. The steering is dead straight. Cautiously took the car up to 80 MPH and car was fine driving straight. It was not pulling in any direction and it takes turns fine. One guy wanted $200 to remove the bumper then he will check out how much repair will cost. $100 an hour of labor. Bumper can be removed within 30 min.

When my friend had screwed up his TSX he as not even able to drive it because the suspension was damaged so bad. It was obvious just looking at his car something was wrong. His steering wheel was misaligned.

I've seen a bent frame after someone hitting a curb at 25 MPH, so one can't really give a correct estimate without a proper inspection. I'd certainly go through the insurance company as long as she was listed, or recognized as a driver on the policy, age wise. Why spend thousands of dollars to save an insurance company payout? Have her ante up the deductible and go from there. The ins. co. will list approved shops, so take it to one of them and if during the repair there are any additonal items needed, this won't become a hassle for you to cope with, just the ins. co. and shop.

I would take it to a second body shop. Don't mention anything about the previous shops. Ask them to put it on the rack and check the frame. It should be a laser rack.

Contrary to popular belief a bent frame doesn't mean huge repairs. It depends on the level of repair. A typcal frame pull is around $800.

I'm waiting for the day cars end up like cell phones. Just throw away items that end up to be cheaper to replace then fix. Judging by the number of reconstructed Acura TL's and Honda's on craigslist that day is comming soon!!

Her friend who came to help her took some pictures because he thought it was funny. She just asked him to send me the pictures here are the pictures of the accident.

As you see the single road behind the "trees" is where she was driving and saw the deer. Trying to avoid it she "flew off" the road went right through those trees. In the process she managed to mow down 2 trees and knock of the side mirror. While I am thankful she did not hit a big tree and injure herself I am very ticked off at her for driving my car in the first place. What luck? Go right through the big trees and just hit 2 small trees.

A picture of the tree that was taken down.

At the end of the day a car is just a car. A car that can be replaced. A human life however can't be replaced. I am happy that she is fine and safe.

Does SHE have insurance of her own? If so, put it through HER insurance; she was driving, it's her responsibility.

If not, put it through yours.

Then have one of the NY locals hook you up.

Looks like she only borrowed it once and lied about the hit and run.

I didn't think the last incident he posted about was as severe. It sounds like this is another incident. Is this kid for real?

Pay the deductible and let the insurance worry about however much it costs to repair it. No offense, but I don't understand why this is so difficult for (your parents I assume) to understand. If any rates change, it'll be hers, not yours. I saw your other thread too. There is more damage than is fixable via DIYing. Its not one of those "it'll buff out" kind of accidents. Your sister drove through a small forest, make her foot whatever bills are associated.

You sure you can trust her that she was avoiding a deer and just doesn't have crappy driving skills, and to embarrased to admit it? Maybe driving to fast?

Go through you Insurance as everyone else says. You do pay for insurance may as well take advantage of it. If you haven't been in a wreck before your rates shouldn't go up much just for one accident. You should have her pay the Deductible though to teach her a lesson, But make her pay not your parents.

Maybe that Honda Pilot saw the TL and pushed her off the road....the same one from this thread....https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/road-rage-against-tl-821160/

Family of bad drivers...

I got hit at less than 20 mph and I was going maybe 5 mph - so total about 25 mph and I had more than 7000 dollars in damage to my vehicle. A bent frame, even if only slightly, will cause major issues for you - if not immediately, eventually. Take it in, get it analyzed and see if its bent for sure.

And like everybody else has been saying, let insurance take care of it.
