No, I told you to accept your cracked dash and leave the cover on because I've been down this road before with a NEW dash that immediately showed
signs of the weakness. You then proceeded to go buy another used dash that's known to for sure fail.
Then you're arguing if my experience and logic in other arenas should apply to asking details on the menial portions of the task like "her uh der, are the screwses are hard to git at and break free?".
Ask away, do what you want...obvi
but don't act like you know what the fuck you're doing.
Especially over someone with more than likely more wrench time and fuck ups than you (even though you keep clinging to the fact that I didn't do this particular task for some reason).

I would like to replace my 05 vent cover with the one you see on the table, because it has a hole for the light meter. But I do not think I can replace it without pulling out the entire dashboard. Because There are screws underneath... what do you think?

Didn't realize there had been more activity on this thread.
I seldom come on here anymore and didn't receive any notifications in the past.
It's really pretty straight forward on the removal (just takes too long)
The only snag i hit was at first i didn't completely remove the steering column from the parts car (thought it was saving time) -- but you HAVE TO.
It has a splined slip-joint , so mark it to make the re-install go back straight.
Now - my update -
after storing my prized perfect replacement dash in the garage ... safely ... in a place with nothing around it to fall or etc...
I checked on it this Spring , about ready to tackle it.
The SOB had cracked while stored safely INSIDE my garage for a little over a year.
SOB - WTF !
From the speaker grille to defrost vent, and another long one on top of the hump in front of the steering wheel.
None around the airbag - but its ruined nonetheless.
If they were easy to R&R , it is still much better shape than my original - and i would do it --- but its just not worth it for all the time and trouble involved.
Fcck this
I'll go the Coverlay Route

I wanted to stomp and kick and throw this dash shell around like a rag doll , and then set it on fire.
But i kept it [outside now] in case anybody needs a picture of some hidden area.
It will go to the dump whenever the next time is that we are hauling anything off.
Sitting outside for almost 6 months now - and no more cracks have appeared. LoL
The only good thing about is .... glad i didn't waste my time installing it in the car right away.

After decades of building cars, no manufacturer has an excuse for cracking dashboards especially if they have less than 75k miles. I think some had it happen like under 50k miles

Thanks for such a detailed thread. I'm probably the only one who's not swapping dashes because of cracks. I'm doing it to swap out my under dash harness from auto to manual. Once I finally do my swap. Parts car was to badly damaged to save it.

Go to the local Acura dealership and ask which tech normally does it.
Then go talk to the guy after getting an oil change requesting that tech.
Bring flowers.
Then ask if he is willing to do a swap on the side for cash. Techs like straight cash, homey.

GM uses a solid plastic dash
Solid AF
3G TL could have been a classic
Too bad
At least resale is trash because of it

If I were to grab a 3G for shits
I'd get a cheap type-s with a fubar'd dash
shave all the cracks, fill it properly and texture
Then vinyl leather wrap it

i am not sure why the the cup holder and the storage compartment had to be taken apart. I wonder what a dealership would charge for all this.
Seems like a massive undertaking for me and i am sure for most people. do you have pics of the replacement dashboard you bought? the top and underside of the dashboard?

I ran across a dash from a 2007 Acura TL at my local junk yard. The price on the dash is $49.99. My dash isn't cracked yet, but I'm highly debating going back to pull it after reading through this thread. What do you guys think? Here are a few pictures.
