Cool Diesel Fuel is a major problem

I hate to post this, but, it turns out it is a more common problem that I realized. Anyway, my wife accidently gassed up our new 2007 TL with deisel fuel. By the time I realized what she had done, she had driven it a few miles.

End result was:
1. New fuel pump and filter
2. Engine De-carb and fuel injection service
3. Catalytic Converters fried.
4. Check engine light wacko for a while until everything was cleaned up.

Hope it does not happen to you!

Ouch...
Being a former Diesel Jetta driver, I always read of folks "gassing" up thier Diesel cars, but never the opposite... A "Gasser" Dieseling up.

The Diesel nozzle is usually always, BIG, Green, and gunky.

That sucks... if it make you feel better, the fuel pump on a Diesel costs about $1200

I agree about the nozzle being 'larger' and hared to insert into the tank inlet. When I asked my wife about that, she said that she had 'difficulty' getting the, er, gas, to go in, but holding the nozzle very carefully, she managed to get 9 gallons into the tank. Amazing!

The pumps ad Circle K and other convenience stores have two nozzles on them, and people easily grab the 'green' one somehow.

Im pretty positive that almost all of them are women, i dont deal with the customers face to face but im pretty sure women are the cause of this mistake! Plus where i live there are alot of old people!

Sorry to hear about this. I managed a gas station after high school, I think this happened about 4 times a year. Would have been more but we often we would catch the person before they pumped it.

When this happened, we used just drain the gas out and fill it back up with diesel. People would drive away with no problems. Diesel in a gas car, we called a tow truck.

hmmm in diesel pump handles are yellow maybe this helps. Also I noticed when my friend had a diesle passat that diesel stations are few and far between here but I bet it happens here all the time too. I remember when I was young my dad put leaded gas into my aunts unleaded only camaro. He had to syfin(SP?) it out.

I tell you, my wife learned a valuable lesson, as well as all of her friends about the consequences of this action. Fortunately, all is well now and the car is running fine after all of the repairs.

Keep the green nozzle away folks!
