Defect Brake pad compound?

i brought my TL to the dealer last week to have them fix my HFL (not functioning), check the wind noise, and brake inspection (steering wheel shakes like hell when i tap on the brake at freeway speed ~70mph or above).

well, long story short, HFL unit replaced under warranty, they re-adjust the window channels and said it produces the same noise as they test drove mine compare to those 08 on the lot (well, it only seems slightly less noise... i'll live with it).

now on the brake issue, since i bought my car used at 28k miles, and i only put barely 1000 miles in 2 months. it seems very unusual for that type of steering wheel shake. so might as well i told them to check on it while the TL is in for repair. ended up the service manager told me the original brake pads compound are defective and made an uneven path on the rotors which caused the shaking.

they replaced new pads, re-surface the rotors all under warranty.

anyone here heard bout the "defective brake pad compound" problem on the TL at all? or it's just a BS from the service manager?

there was a change in brake pads where the stock ones were flat and the dealer replacements have a angled cut edge - like many aftermarket pads do.
Whether a compound change was a part of this no one knows for sure, but at 28k you were right on schedule for brakes and a rotor resurface
These acura rotors have a reputation for easy warping, if you gt them hot hot, make sure to do a cooling off drive at freeway speed without using the brakes for about 10 minutes.
If you come down a long hill, go ahead and use d4 or d3 or whatever gear works in 6 speeds to keep the speed down enough that you use the brakes to kill 20 mph with a brief medium effort- then allow them to rest and apply again
that cuts down on warpage potential
When its time for brakes again, think about aftermarket rotors and pads- there are several really good brands, as tested by ziners

sure i will, thanks for the advice. i guess i'll do it after 28K+ miles later since the pads are new and they re-surfaced the rotors already, basically the front brakes are only 200 miles on so far....
but phew, at least i saved myself few hundred bucks this time on the brake service.

so do you think the stock 6sp or type S brembo OEM setup is good? or just straight go to aftermarket rotors and pads?

there are better pads for it, and rotora makes a ceramic pad and a slotted rotor as well.
OE is not always the best stuff available....
Dont expect another 28 out of this set- now the rotor is thinner, and has more heat issues
Should go more than 15 but not 30- hows that for a guesstimate!

use matched maker rotors and pads- rotora has them for the 6 speed cars

lars where is your info from?
