dealer b.s.?

05 TL auto with 29k. ive been noticing some really hard downshifts while braking, so i call the dealer and talk to the service rep. RIGHT AWAY he starts spewing crap about 'needing" the "required 30k trans fluid change", and that this will be "needed" before correctly diagnosing the trans issue.... at my cost! i told him he was full of shit... does anyone know of a required 30k trans fluid replace, because my owners manual clearly states 60k and then every 30k thereafter...?

also asked about the 1500rpm drone/ vibration issue and the damper----he said for the 05 the subframe is different and there is no fix for the vibration.. they just call it " normal " in the 05..?

check the owner book carefully for normal and severe service schedule

When you CALL and talk to a Service Advisor- that person has standard answers they give-= cannot diagnose over the phone~
and are generally NOT techs and some are not car people at all- just sales of repairs!!!

Of course the policy line is change the fluid- that makes money for nothing~
Do they want a 3 quart change as the book says?- which does nothing-IMO
or the 3x3 method with 9 quarts of fluid? Which acura says you only need if you put dextron3 in during an emergency- then you MUST ~flush~(per acuras version of the word) the system in the 3x3 drain and refill; method
Do NOT get a machine power flush- those are bad news for us

Go in person and speak with the service manager- if its a huge place, that may not be easy- so ask for a service writer with tech background
Service Managers can get anything they want approved as warranty
and they can send a tech on a short test drive with you to see if a problem is normal

Go drive a few of the same year at acura dealer and see how they feel
Check the service bulletin threads of gen3 for info on the vibration

The 05 owners manual says to change the trans oil at 60k for unusual service{like driving up hills?}... i cant imagine where a 30k. trans oil change is normal!{ or "required" to diagnose a trans. issue} Also, ive checked for the 1500 vibration issue on the boards--- seems it normally applies to 04, but i thought i remembered even people with 05's had the damper installed.?{im just wondering to what extent im being lied to by the dealer] thanks, but with 11,000 posts, i was hoping you {or anyone] could give me more personal answers than ' check my owners manual, and search the forum for info".. btw-thanks for the reply and honestly, no offense intended..

I am gen2 so have to be careful on answers- as cars/books.acuras desires may differ
The manual tells you what acura says to do for your year- thats all that matters
Thats your PROOF to go in with- when you speak to the manager-
thats why I said to read it,- then YOU know exactly what it says- making you smarter than the guy on the phone!
Thats may get you past the bs and on to a test drive with the head tech- thats what you want right? someone to check the car out

there is a specific section in gen3 where Ron A post the monthly acurw TSB tech service bulletins- if you look there you can find many things
Again- I dont know about gen3 cars- so have to send you to the azine resource center
and look them up yourself

I can tell you about brakes- suspension-lights and transmission failures- they are the same, just cant say 100 percent on this one

And just what kind of help do you expect to find in the middle of the night!!

the manual ALSO tells you what severe/unusual service means! so you can eliminate your question mark about it after reading again!
An informed driver is a safer driver
Know how the traction and abs systems work with the yaw sensors and speed sensors? Better learn now before winter- and the seat heat has operational constraints too

In general on severe--- short 5-10 mile trips, stop and go traffic commute, mountain driving, towing (dont know if gen3 allowed to tow) extended high freeway speeds-
pretty much normal driving in america puts you in the severe-unusual schedule

the question mark implied my being facetious.....i only have 29k easy miles on the car...the manual calls for 60k trans fluid change UNDER EXTREME conditions--not 30k.. can anyone tell me if the 1500 rpm {vibration}damper fix is being applied to 05 models?GUY, IM NOT A CHICK, OLD,17, OR OF THE NON MECHANICALLY INCLINED PERSUASION---IM AWARE OF THE OBVIOUS....

Changing the fluid will probably fix your problem. The stock Z1 fluid is not a 60 or 90K mile fluid, it's a cheap 15K mile fluid. Disregard what the manual tells you. Even so, if the first scheduled severe duty change is required at 60K and you're under that mileage and under warranty, it seems clear that the dealer should cover it.

As for the vibration, I have no idea. I thought there was a dampener that was installed on the frame as a fix that helped but did not completely solve the problem.

And now that its daytime - you still dont have a real answer!
Check your attitude- much of what I write is for others in the future tracking down a problem

05 auto 1500rpm vibration

does anyone know if the damper fix for the 04 auto 1500 rpm drone/ vibration applies to the05 model? My dealer says there isnt anywhere to bolt it on, but that they are aware it is an issue... with no fix..
