dashboard cracking on 04 TL, WTF!

While cleaning the interior of my car today I noticed a two inch crack on the dashboard. The crack starts at the edge of the smooth section of the dashboard and travels through the rough area were the steering wheel dashboard hump {for lack of a better word}. This seems premature especially on an '04. I will take it to the dealer and see what they say since it is out of warranty. Anybody else have a similar issue?

I have had where one of the mounting points of the Clips has broken off, but that was due to a tech prying at it. I would go to acura and see what they have to say about it. If they do nothing, call up acura client services and complain. How far are you out of warranty?

64,ooo miles on the odo. so I'm out by 14,000 miles. It just seems premature wear on a four year old car. I planned on keeping it for a while but now I'm reconsidering that thought. Now I'm wondering what else is going to fail. I do not abuse my cars and I keep the TL in the garage while at home.

Update. Took the TL to the dealership today and discussed my problem with the service advisor. They are aware of TL's having problems with the dashboards prematurely cracking and they will GOODWILL the work aslong as it is under 75000 miles. Lukily they were pretty cool with it. I also explained to them that my cd player was no longer working and that I have bought a new unit. They will install the new radio free of charge aswell. Positive experience so far. Parts ordered. Keeping my fingers crossed.

Glad it's being taken care of!

I wonder if using the 303 protectant has any bearing on the longevity of the dashboard materials... ?

<-- *hugs his 100k warranty*

I took it to R C Acura, as far as my leather seats, they looked at bit worn after 6k miles, but I did'nt concern myself because leather will eventually wear and will not stay looking new for long anyways. The dashboard cracking on the other hand is not normal wear and tear for a four year old car.

Update: Dashboard replaced under goodwill, the dealership did a great job with the installation.

BTW... I have an '05 TL 6mt with 49,090 miles with 5 cracks on dashboard. Took the car to Phil Smith (formally Ed Morse) and they covered it under warrantee no questions asked. I also had all 4 of the plastic covers that go behind the door handles break (1 missing and I handed the service writer the other 3) and they are covering those as well. Acura of Delray told me that they were NOT covered and even if they were, I would have to pay for the missing one, since they would have nothing to return to Acura.

I had the same issue with my 04 a year ago. Took it to Acura of South Florida in Pembroke Pines and they replaced it with no questions asked.

My 04's dash was looking a little ashy when I first got it - then I've started soaking it in 303 every 2 weeks & use a sunshade religiously.

WOW! I wish our Honda dealer was half as forgiving as yours! They try to weasel out of stuff that IS under warranty!
Good dealerships are very hard to come by!

Dumb question, but do you think the cracking windshields are a result of being dark in color and constantly in direct sunlight? Do you think it is a stability problem where the frame flexes putting stress on the panel? I'm just curious, because I have a model-specific heat shield from Covercraft that I put up behind the windshield every time I park and it does keep the interior and especially the dash much cooler. I'd recommend, especially since spending $50 on that is much less than a new dash (i'd assume anyway).
