Dashboard covers - which material suites our cars best

Velour looks like carpet to me. I'm with Rockstar on this one. I received mine the other day and already i'm getting compliments. Getting less for more?? No way! Sedona suede keeps the Acura looking like an Acura. The crappy velcro that they give you is deffinately not even worth your time. I wasted a good 2 hours trying to use them, and for now it holds it down ok, but i want it to look flush and tight before i post some pictures. So hopefully i find time this weekend to get some industrial strength velcro and redo the whole thing. Also Rockstar, i haven't cut out for the tweeters yet, but i can't hear the difference. But because I have aftermarket tweets above the grilles, there is a slight hump that i don't like. When i'm done fixing these issues i'll post some pix. Gotta say though, very satisfied. It doesn't look like a grandma's car...which was my biggest fear about puting on a dash cover. lol

nonetheless i'm pretty sure i'll be satisfied with just the black brushed suede.
seems like there's one thing everyone agrees on, and that is the velcro that comes with the dash cover sucks. i have that problem covered though, i can easily get industrial strength velcro for free

DO it!
Yeah, we're all happy and that's all that matters. No more worries about a cracked dash, how about that?!
About your tweeters...put on a song at a loud volume before velcro'ing down and literally, put it back on the tweeter and take off repeatedly. Initially, I thought it was the same, but it definitely muffled the higher frequency a bit.

Ok. I finally got some time to do this right. So here is my dash cover from Dash Toppers...I too removed that annoying tag...in sedona suede with text. I gotta say it makes me completely forget I have cracks on my dashboard...plus the personalization makes it....well...personal. The only thing I don't like is the the center piece is not perfect. I tried it out with many different variations and i couldn't get it to look centered. Anywho, it's something that apparently I only notice.

how much does the whole carpet weigh ?

Thanks for the great advice Rockstar!! You were completely right about the tweeters. I pulled those and the sensor through the cover and it makes it look so custom. As for tightening it down, I used a lot of velcro, but maybe it's the one I got, all the lines are not perfect. So stretching it out messes up the alignments. If i pull it towards the left to fix the center piece, the part over the gauges is way off and its pretty bad. It looks like the whole thing is perfect the way it is, just that they cut the line too short where it comes down from the right side of the climate display. imo. Either way, i'm happy. Honestly, after having it in my car for this past week, I would put one of these bad boys on my car with or without a cracked dashboard. it's pretty elegant. Worth the money spent, and at less than 5% of the cost of a replacement dashboard....where is the doubt?

ha ha...tasteful diet...everything tasteful is usually not on a diet, ironically.
PS...I know what you all mean about it not being perfect...sure, if you stare long enough you'll see some imperfections (like my front long air vent...the topper is not covering it perfectly) but if you fix one you mess up another. Get it to the point where you can live with it and call it a day!
about the looks...I agree...it adds another level of texture to the interior that I don't mind at all.

I don't like the idea of putting the TL on a diet. If you really want better handling and faster response, there are better ways around it. I wouldn't turn the TL into a Tercel for better gas mileage, I would just buy a second car for work. Acura put all those added touches for a reason, and we all bought into it, hense, why we bought one. I am all for upgrading...not downgrading. imo.

this is what annoys me the most. when i first put it in my car, i cut like 6 1-inch squares and applied it to the heat vent area evenly spread but the next day the dash cover wouldnt stay stuck to the velcro. i would press it down and it would stick for just a few minutes and pop back up.
got annoyed so i re did it, this time i used a long strip, as long as the heat vent and lined up the velcro on the side nearest to the window. worked for a day and now the velcro adhesive won't stick to the dash. i cleaned the area REALLY well with iso alcohol too. you can see half of it is standing up and the other half is partially velcro'd down

instead of buying 25lbs rims, buy 14 lbs....saves you 40lbs right there....maybe you can do something with the OM, steering, front seats, other crap we put in our cars....am not looking to loose 800lbs....just 300-350lbs....and i bet it will make a difference....every 100lbs you get .1-.15 seconds quicker on the track....350 pounds is .35-.5 seconds...not a bad trade off IMO....and it doesnt look bad as you are not removing everything which the car has to offer, just watching what you eating if you will

Still happy with the Sedona but I think the suede looks good too, bud!
don't worry about the heater vent, mine doesn't line up perfect either...but I dont' see it that much. You must have had a lot of armorall on that area or something...try clean it and just applying the velcro in small sections where it needs it while the cover is on. My guess is that if there is a large section that isn't sticking well, it's probably pulling the ones that are kinda sticking and pulling the whole thing off.

and this is rolling mass, so if adds up when your rolling/slowing down....the diet doesnt only help you get off the line quicker but also helps you slow down quicker and hence less usage of gas/brakes and other stuff....
am planning on 300-400 lbs weight reduction without loosing any looks/functionality
dude....its not bad at all....you did a way better job than most of us on here....dont compare with J (rockstar) he is perfectionist OCD....check how he fixed his dash without any help/ideas....

ha thanks man. i guess your right, i was comparing my install to rockstars and the others that had aftermarket tweeters. the people that had aftermarket tweeters and were able to tuck the dash cover under the tweeter produced a very nice and clean looking install. big ups to them!

Hey hey hey.....I totally RESEMBLE that comment!~
Thanks though, on a serious note.
PS...I'm convinced, although I haven't gone in the attic yet, that I could take a dremel and give the stock tweeter enough of a "lip" on the surface area for it to sit on an opening of the dashmat. I'm pretty sure it's possible, or to make a plastic bezel you can use to sit it in so it doesn't fall thru the dashmat. Now that I think about it, since your speakers are easy plug ins and not soldered in like mine, you could take the whole thing and the tweets out of the car to come up with a way to fasten them to mat and then just plug them in upon install. DO ETT!

Your dash cover looks fine, but the large hole for the center speaker, well, I'm not sure what to think about that. I think that would have to be viewed in person for full effect.
BTW, after looking back up through this page of the thread, I think the brushed suede will be my eventual choice. And for absolutely sure it will have NO monogramming. Cheapens these entry level luxury sports sedans.....

the wood is different so it catches you off guard if you're familiar with the TL, but I actually think it looks good. I like the extra texture and look of it.
Ok...in looking at your cover, there are some pros to it, and some cons.
Pro, it has the tweeters and center speaker not covered.
Cons, has the dreaded flap for the airbag and the material looks cheapish.
Just my opinion, and based on the pictures. Doesn't look horrible but I'm happy with mine.

just a heads up for anyone that has a heatshield sunshade...
after installing my dashcover, i noticed when i tried to put up my heatshield sunshade it wouldn't slide into place. the dashcover was preventing my sunshade from hugging the glass at the very bottom of my windshield.
to counteract this, i measured 1 inch from the bottom of my sunshade and cut a even 1 inch long strip off of my sunshade from left to right.
the result is a sunshade that fits the windshield perfectly, just as it did before i installed my dashcover.
