Condensation in headlight
Condensation in headlight
Hey everyone. I havent posted in a couple years but I recently paid off my 2008 TL base/Navi and I decided to keep it, so I did a couple mods to take away from the plain jane look. One of the things i did was clear out the headlights. Anyways it was a pretty straight foward process just a lil time consuming. I resealed them and reinstalled them and they were fine for about 3 weeks. No condensation, and we got some pretty heavy rain storms too. Tonight I took it the to car wash(manual, coin op) and a small ammount of condensation appeared in the lower corner of the lens near the DRL's on both sides. It really bumed me out haha. Is there any way to fix this without opening up the headlights again and resealing? I searched around a bit and saw some folks put more silica packets in behind the projector housing or useing a hair dryer and a vaccume to get the condensation out. Just wondering if there are any better methods out there for getting rid of condensation?
I dident use butyl tape, I used waterproof silicone sealent that was seguested in one of the DIYs I read for this mod. I ended up taking my headlights off again the other day and removing the drl bulb and the marker/blinker bulb from the housing. I heald a hair dryer flush against the opening for the marker bulb and the vaccume against the opening for the DRL bulb. I ran the hair dryer and vaccume togather for about 5 min on each headlight. It got rid of all the condensation, after I put another good bead of silicone around each headlight, let it kick off/cure for 24 hrs then reinstalled headlights and bumper. The next day I washed my car again. sprayed the headlights directly with the hose and they were fine, no leaks and no condensation. However tonight when I got out of school around 9pm I noticed a tylenol tablet size spot of condensation in the pass side headlight near the marker bulb. I think what I did with the hair dryer and the vaccume helped, but ultimately im thinking there just isnt a good enough seal.
