CODE P0420 Bank 1- Please help
CODE P0420 Bank 1- Please help
So i have a 2007 Tl type s manual transmission;
I just hit 103,000 miles and the code P0420 bank 1 on the code reader came up which means possibly bad catalyst, under threshold... what is the recommendation by anyone who has had this issue. I know that either way i go it is not cheap! I was trying to be sneaky and possibly get a precat delete, but the check engine does not go off unless you purchase the hondata flash.
So far i have done the following;
1. Turned off the light with a code reader
2. The light went back on after approximately 1 week of driving or 500 miles.
3. I spoke to acura and another shop who told me conflicting information.
A. Acura tells me that it could cost approx 1000 to replace the cat / and 02 sensor if both cats are bad and need to be replaced it could cost 1500...
B. Another mechanic stated that the cats should last the life of the car and that something else is wrong...
(acura is sure that nothing else is wrong and it just went bad)
What should i do... If i have to pay the money to have it fixed im okay with that but i dont want to waste my money or time if it is just an 02 sensor...
Please help

Also, if i chose to do this myself. ( I am pretty mechanically savvy) Is this something I should have the dealer do because of the fact that I have to drop the sub-frame and remove the axle for this job???
Also, the other question is that if i do choose to do this myself any recommendations on whether or not to install the Xlr8 Jpipe at the same time?????

acura is right on their cost estimates
the mechanic is also right that a CAT should last the life of the car, however, if you use gas from a questionable source, it can kill your catalytic converter. you can also have a bad sensor.. way to find out is to connect a code reader that has live data streaming abilities and read your o2 values in real time.
