Clutch replacement or APP replacement?
Clutch replacement or APP replacement?
I have a 2005 Acura TL, 6-speed with 139K miles. I have been experiencing the same sluggishness recently that I'm reading about here. I took it to be repaired. After $1100 in repairs, they did an oil change, replaced 2 axel seals, an air intake boot and replaced 2 cracked motor mounts. I was told this would fix the transmission fluid leak that is prematurely wearing out the clutch. When I got the car back, the problem is still there. I can't seem to accelerate and shift without the hitting 4K rpm. I called the mechanic back and they said to bring it back for a new clutch et al. I asked if it could be the spark plugs, and he said no, they had already been checked and were fine.
I had the clutch replaced in Sept 2014, and it's been maybe 30K miles since then. This will be the 4th clutch on this car. I can't believe my manual stickshift driving is that bad! I've had 2 BMW 3-series that I drove about 180K each and have replaced the clutch once on each car.
I am correct in questioning my mechanic and asking him if the problem could be the app sensor? I just can't see spending another $1500 to repair a clutch with only 30K miles. I could really used some advice and recommendations.

If your engine RPMs are going up but your speed doesn't increase, your clutch is slipping and will need to be replaced. If the car itself is just sluggish until it gets to 4K RPM or higher, then it could be many things.
If you need to replace the clutch, then make sure to replace the flywheel at THE SAME TIME! The LUK clutch kit from rockauto is your best bet, and the LUK flywheel can be had for only around $200. Take it from 1st hand experience on this one! Due to the nature of the dual mass flywheel, replacing it along with the clutch is a must! LUK is the OEM supplier to Acura for the clutch parts so you know you're getting the real McCoy, OEM parts without the Honda name on the package and without the insane OEM prices.
My original clutch lasted 180K miles. Then I replaced just the clutch and that lasted only about 40K miles. LUK tech support told me about the importance of replacing the flywheel on these cars simultaneously. Sure enough, almost 100K miles later ..................
Now go find yourself a new mechanic!
