In short, my friend was driving my car (2005 Acura TL - Auto) on the highway. He stopped to pay the toll. As soon as he began accelerating the CEL came on and started blinking. Immediately, the car started losing power as he accelerated. He pulled over to the side of the highway and turned the car off. Turned it on a few minutes later and a solid CEL appeared and the car began shaking. Turned the car off again. When he went to start it up again it wouldn't start. Any ideas of what could be going on??? I've NEVER had a single problem with my car, never a CEL. It has about 60,000 miles on it right now. Just want an idea of what this could be before the dealer takes a look at it and rips me off. Any help would be great, thanks

 

can you get to a parts store?- they will read the codes for you FREE
and we can diagnose most things from there- codes are clues, not a diagnosis

gas cap on the required 3 clicks? good rubber seal on cap- not broken?
running 91 octane good gas? brand name station or gas r us type place?

could be egr ports plugged- DIY for that (see gen2 if needed)
pull a spark plug and inspect wear
