CEL, Flashing D/M and power loss

my wife was driving the TL tonight when all of a sudden the D light started flashing, she lost power and then the CEL came on... i was following her and she pulled over and i went to check what happened... there was no noise or grinding...

i turned off the car for a few seconds and restarted it... put it into gear and everything seemed normal aside from the CEL... i took it for a test drive and the car would not shift into 4th... i also tried in M mode and would shift up to 3rd and hold the gear... got home and let the car sit for an hour as i had dinner...

just went back out and checked all the fluids... everything looks good, the Amsoil ATF i have in there is cherry red and smells fine... took the car back out for another ride and the car now shifted into every gear fine except for the CEL... i'll try to pull the code this weekend... anyone have this happen to them before???

50k miles may be time to change the pressure switches... but i just found it weird... im not sure if the really cold temps we had today had anything to do with it... but it was pretty scary... damn Honda ATs!!!

perhaps the viscosity of the fluid is a little to thick at that temperature? or it could be the piece of crap honda transmission! between the odyssey and the TL i am at number 6

it could be very possible that the 4th gear pressure switch (or 3rd if it didn't shift into third) is bad. My MDX has a pressure switch fail on 5th gear and it did the same thing.

This.

How many miles are on the car? Also, how much are those switches from Acura?

the plot thickens!!!

my CEL just turned off... WTF!!! it is alot warmer today so i'm starting to think maybe temp did have something to do with what happened last night? but still weird...

i already ordered the switches from Tim and they will be here tomorrow... so ill take some time to install them on Saturday and do a 1X3 as cheap insurance on the glass tranny... it has been about 15k miles since my last drain and fill IIRC...

Dingo - all three switches and gaskets were $107 from Tim@OEMAcuraParts... he never lets me down, in stock and i paid extra ($20) to have them overnighted to me in time for the weekend...

Do this first, just in case the code shows an APP sensor going bad.

Did someone hook up a reader? I'm not sure I would trust a dealership service writer unless he has hands-on experience with the car.

I thought I saw some threads here where codes were stored although the CEL turned off.

What I've heard from a honda/acura specialist is this. If CEL goes out automatically, the code isn't stored. If CEL is removed by a tool, it will be stored up to 14 drive cycles (i don't know exactly what that means, but about 10 min drive until everything is warmed up).

Get yourself a code reader. Bought one when I had a Maxima (they should come with code readers in the glove box!), best $60 I ever spent.

Pull the code, put it into the search function and all the threads related to the code come up.

i was looking at this app on my phone... which bluetooth ODB2 adapter did you use to go with this app?
