Cause of "door" rattle!?!?!?!

I don't think it is the door at all. I, like others on the board, have had a rattle/ticking eminating from the forward section of my passenger door since my car was almost brand new. I have spent some time looking the door panels but was not able to isolate any conditions that caused the sound I was hearing.

I also looked at the metal to metal condition that has been documented but ruled this out as the sound that I hear is made regardless of occupancy of the passenger seat.

While playing around with the passenger seat, I stumbled opon the fact that the seat control assembly was loose and if you pushed/pulled on it, the assembly would rattle in its housing.

To test if this was causing the "door" rattle, I attached a piece of tape (as shown in the picture) and lo and behold, the rattle is gone.

Right now, I don't know the fix. If someone can post a diagram showing how to take apart the plastic under the seat, I'm sure I can figure something out.

What is interesting is the seat control on the driver's side is tight.

have you seen this ?

It can sound like it is coming from the door but it is really the seat. but probably not if it also happens with a passenger in the seat. Just figured I'd let you know in case you never saw it.

Yes I have (thanks for bringing it to my attention anyway). The noise in my car is coming from the seat control assembly. The noise mentioned above is dependent on passenger seat occupancy; I don't seem to have this issue.

Putting the tape on the control knob and pulling it up and taping it off to take up the slack gets rid of my rattle.

All I need to do now is come up with a permanent fix.

Funny is without even reading this thread, I realized this just yesterday. Also my dealership often said they found the window shaft to be unprefectly aligned causing the window to vibrate slightly? Ask them to check that out if all else fails?

B I N G O !!!! I have/had the rattling too from the passenger side seat control knob. Fixed by placing a piece of foam behind the knob.

Funny how I discovered it. The rattle started after my wife was a passenger. I usually have no passenger. So, I asked myself "what all did she touch/adjust when she was a passenger?". I saw the seat adjuster, and reached down to feel the adjuster...Bingo...it was loose. Place a waded of paper in the adjuster to test if rattle would disappear. It did. Problem solved.

Thanks for the reply; did you ever take it in for a more permanent fix from the dealer?
