Car won't turn over unless I press the gas

I went to start my car today and it wouldn't turn over. I then tried again, but this time pressing the gas and it turned over with no problems.

Any ideas on what may have happened? My car started just fine yesterday and I've never had this problem till today. My engine light is not on and has never came on since I've owned the car.

Could it be the spark plugs? I've been wanting to do a tune up but haven't had a chance.

2005 Acura TL 3.2L with Navi at 136,000 miles. Originally purchased at 102,000 miles.

if you havent changed the spark plugs and timing belt, I would do that soon.

and I dont think stepping on the accelerator pedal started your car.
fluke.

Wait.. that sounds like you flooded the engine no? Doesn't stepping on the gas then purge the engine?

yeah you're also overdue for spark plugs and I hope you got your TB shortly after you got the car if it wasn't done prior.

Need more data to diagnose. Did you hear the starter motor click? Did the lights flash? Was everything electrical working in the car? Did it choke? Flooded engine?

I appreciate the quick responses!

Timing belt was done at 105k miles. It looks like I’ll be doing the spark plugs this weekend! Any recommendations? I’ve been told NGK?

That’s what I was thinking when I pressed the gas, but I only pressed the gas down for 2 secs as I started the engine? Is it even possible for to flood our engines? I’m sorry I only know the basics.

Thanks for your response! The starter motor was clicking but the engine wouldn’t turn over. Everything electrical was working just fine; all the dash lights were came on like normal and my Navi was turning on along with the lights. I might mention I’ve had battery issues in the past because HFL would drain my battery crazy. This is the first time this sorta thing ever happened though. I drove my car 4 times throughout the day and it started up just fine except for this morning.

Someone correct me if im wrong but I think the drive by wire throttle system wouldnt allow you to flood the engine considering its electronically controlled.

If I'm to assume, when you say the engine wouldn't turn over, that the engine wouldn't crank as opposed to the engine cranking but just wouldn't start, look at the starter.
