Car idles a little rough
Car idles a little rough
I have a 2007 base model with 63k miles and it just recently about a week ago started to idle but nothing severe. Its been hot here in Texas, so I know its not because of the cold weather or the car sitting for an extended period. Would it have anything to do with me needing an oil change? I dont recall this happening when I got my oil change about 6 months ago. I've searched through the forum but didnt see anything having to do with an oil change.
Thanks in advance,
Stephani

Could be any of the following:
1) Vacuum leak. Check all your vacuum hoses for proper seating and wear. There is also a method to use butane or propane (I can't remember the type of gas at the moment
) to find a vacuum leak if it's not obvious from a visual inspection.
2) Ignition. Pull your spark plugs and see if any of them have deposits on them. Ensure the coil packs are seated fully and not damaged.
3) Air filter. Pull your air filter and check its condition.
4) Fuel. Clogged fuel line/dirty injector. Not trivial to troubleshoot compared to the above. Make sure you're using a quality premium fuel! Some people run fuel system cleaners also. I don't know if they work or not, but spending a couple of bucks every month at least gives me a placebo effect of satisfaction.
5) Engine misfires. If your rough idle isn't severe, this probably isn't the issue. Plus you would get a check engine light.
Check and report back! If you're not sure about something, take a pic.

I have been using premium fuel the whole time. Only once since I purchased the car in December have I accidentally filled it up with mid-range because I wasn't paying attention.
When I get my oil change next week, I'll have my mechanic check out the spark plugs, I can check the air filter and the vacuum leak. Thanks guys.
