Car was Hit

My car was hit this past weekend by an idiot and I’m waiting on a damage assessment. Was hit mainly on the passenger rear quarter panel and the door is dented slightly. Damage I suppose isn’t as bad as it looks from what I’ve been told. Tire didnt rub from what I could tell. Just want to see if this would be considered totaled or not. Thanks. It’s an 08 6MT with 138k btw.

because we arent insurance adjusters, we're armchair internet quarter back pitchers general managers....we can only guess.

the rear quarter panel is one the hardest places to repair correctly. if the price to repair exceeds the value of the car, then yes...it will be totaled.
if the repair shop can repair it without much man hours into it, then no, wont be totaled.

I figured, I didn’t expect that of anyone. Just thought I’d see as these cars have been around for a while and I’m sure people have seen all types of damage.

There are a good chance that the car will get totaled, the rear quarter panel require cut and weld and blend in paint job. in my unprofessional eyes the estimate for the damage is around $6500 - $7200 in repair, the insurance probably gonna play low ball plus "supplement estimate" to push for the total payout. I was in the same boat as you back in May of this year.

Some idiot decide to got drunk, ran two red lights, struck a pick up truck and using my KBP front end as a stopper. Best of yet she go no insurance...… FML. If you have any question regard how much of a d*ck insurance could be feel free to ask me via PM.

Refinish Rim ~ $125
Refinish rear bumper + Repair + Paint ~ $500
Wheel house repair + Rear Quarter Repair + Sill Damage + Door Repair + Side Skirt Repaint ~ $3500-4000 depending on how deep the damage is.

TL-S 6MT value has rise and good examples have sold for over 20K recently (40K miles on Bring A Trailer) so I doubt they will total it out. Insurance usually considers more than 50-75% of value of cars in repairs a total loss. I would find a good shop that works on custom cars/imports that is reputable and family owned. Talk to them and see if in addition to the damage you can pay to get your front bumper refinished and redone (Another $500ish) and any other issues that need to be taken care of such as painting faded spoiler or trunk, etc. They can mix up extra paint and do the work while you are there getting the other stuff done on a seperate bill. Less work in the future and the paint will match way better!

OP, the car is TOTALED. Now, I can do you a solid and take it off your hands...

Auto body repair cost can vary greatly by shop and location. I had a car with similar damage and was quoted $4k by a fancy shop. I also had a couple quotes for $1,500 from other mom & pops shops. That pricing is after I replaced the door. So it depends

The insurance will determine if the car is deemed a total loss. If it's written off as a total loss, they will probably offer you the option the full amount payout and take the car or a partial payout with you keeping it. In those cases, the car will hold a salvaged title.

Personally, I would try to keep the car since it's a 6MT with low miles, and shop around for a good shop. Otherwise, I guess I will keep an eye out for it on IAAI or Copart if you decide to total it.

Insurance go by stuff like KBB and Edmuds. The $20k is more of an outlier.

Ain't no one have time to hunt down some niche website pricing.

Thanks! Yeah it looks better than when I bought it in all honesty. I wish I had the funds available at the time and I would've had the whole thing repainted lol especially after seeing the NBP pop out like that. Also side note, i didn't realize how "faded" my other wheels were in comparison to the new one that's pictured. Looks a lot darker than the other ones.

Yeah the newer ones tend to be darker as the fade over time. You can have a wheel repair company repaint the other rim on that side so it matches better. Save up some money and in a year or two you can get the rest repainted!

Yeah I'm probably gonna have the other 3 corrected/repainted to match as they all need a little bit of TLC. I do plan on having it repainted within 2 years!

Any wheel repair company will probably give you a deal for 3 of the wheels to match the 4th Contact local tire places and ask who they use/recommend locally.

When you get the car repainted, I would highly advise when you do it, buy new clips for the roof trim, bumper brackets, and the door seals too! Buy new side marker gaskets and tail light gaskets too. The bodyshop can take off the black strips under the windows and you can get the wrapped. I wrapped mine while the car was at the shop. The edges are STUPID sharp on those trims!

Also they can remove the wiper arms and the plastic surround so you can fix it at home or get it redone. There is a new ceramic paint for the plastic trim that seems to be pretty good!

Saw this on a detailer video on youtube:
Amazon Amazon

Not sure if this will work around the window trim, but the wiper cowl and other faded plastics like mud guards.
