Can't figure this fishtail problem.

i recently just brought an 04 TL and i notice that every time i hit a bump my car fishtail and it is more worse in the rain. My tires have good thread and i brought the car in for an alignment today and they say my sway bar and everything look normal. However the problem is not solve. Would the car being too low be a factor because it came with d2 full coilover and it 4 months old not blown or leak. so what could be the problem?? thanks in advance

You need to be more specific about what is happening, if you are "fishtailing" then your rear end is swinging wildly side to side. My first thought is blown shocks but you say they are new. Did you install them or just what you were told? More details and maybe we can help....btw its tire tread, not thread (personal pet peave)

IIRC, there's a TSB for that. How much weight is in the back seat/trunk? Is the fishtailing worse with more weight in the back/trunk?

Maybe no give in the suspension (too stiff) so when the bumps are hit, the shocks don't absorb the obstruction, but just push the body upward and the tires go along with the reaction, up off the ground.

I would check the damper setting, this is why I hate coilover since you have to mess around to get the right setting.

+1 on that. Also thinking it's too hard and making the car jump. We have lift off!

I had a Ford Thunderbird SuperCoupe which did something like this because the rear bearing was going out. I'd be driving along and all the sudden the rear end would kick out and I'd be driving a little sideways almost as if I was drifting and then it would straight back out. Make sure your bearings are good and the rear tire has no play in it.

I agree, its prolly your toe & camber. My car has "fishtailed" before & especially in the rain. Turns out it was the toe & camber in the rear bc my car was lowered and not aligned properly.

Thought you said the rear was the problem, no steering back there?
