A/C blowing in spurts
So I started my 04 today, and when I turned on the AC (auto) it started blowing hard then stopped totally then on again, it actually does this is 5-10sec intervals. Then about 3-5min into the drive it stops and AC functions normally again. It seems to only do it when cold or at beginning of startup..
I was thinking possilbe blower motor? Someone said expansion valve, but I don't think that would actually cause it to stop blowing. Anyone experience this? |
Anyone?

AC motor switch / transistor / resistor.
|
|
when that happened in my accord it was the resistor.
|
kind of crazy how they still use a resistor like that 22 years later (bad resistor in my 89 civic)
|
I had the same issue and took the car into the dealer and had the blower motor replaced under warranty. When I told the service dept what it was doing they just ordered a new blower and said its a known problem.
|
Thanks guys, I wonder if I should do the motor or the resistor 1st? I guess I'll to the cheaper of the two 1st. Thanks for the input.
|
I'll try the resistor first, looks to be right behind the glove box??
|
No reason to replace a whole engine if it only needs an oil change, know what I mean.
You can access the transistor below the glove box (not behind glovebox), just remove the lower cover (should be 3 clips and a release pin in the back). Disconnect the 4 pin connector and replace the transistor switch (should be a couple of fasteners in place). Put it back together and you're done. |
^^ got ya..Thanks for the info. I ordered the resistor from my buddy at Honda this morning (as it matched over to Honda part #).
Looks like I'll be putting the new one in tomorrow afternoon, I'll post my results. Hope it's not the blower motor..:wish: |
Thanks Majofo !!! Looks like the resistor fixed the problem!! $42 dollars and about 3min to change, can't be much easier than that!!
|
Thanks for telling us the final fix.
|
Glad it worked out Schul!

Exact same issue here. The past 2-3 weeks, when I first get into my car I can hear/feel the blower turning on and off in spurts. Then after a few minutes it all goes back to normal. Today when I got in my car at work....nothing....said f'it and started driving home (with my seat heat on high) and about 4 minutes later it comes on and works perfectly.
Guess I will be calling my local Acura and Honda dealers in the morning to find their pricing and see if I am lucky enough to only have this be my issue. |
That's how mine was acting at first in the CL, then the A/C quit working period.
It was the resistor on top of the blower motor. |
I hate dealer markup some days. $53 list, $64 at the local Honda dealer, $68 at the local Acura dealer, and $40 from Delray. Guess that is the price you pay for having it in stock and available immediately.

And fixed. Less than 5 minutes to replace the transistor. I spent more time looking for the "clips" that holds the lower panel in place before I realized you just pull it down. Two screws hold the module in place. My drive into work this morning was nice actually having a functional heating/defrost system.
