brake flush at 3 years?
Hi i was getting my A1 service today and the service rep recommanded brake flush since it's been three years since i bought my 06 TL. he quoted me $199 for the service. i don't know much about brake flush is that about right? i don't plan to do it myself do i need to get it done at the dealership or at the brake shop? thank you for all your inputs
Yes... at year 3 it should be done. Bring in a high quality BF for them to use. You can definitely get it done cheaper. It takes no more than an hour to do all four lines. I recommend finding an independent shop that specializes in Honda & Acura's, and we're not talking about the shops that say they specialize in all imports.
Make sure they flush all four lines and don't just suck out the master cylinder and refill. It should take about 1 Qt to do the job.
edit: you might even want to ask a fellow Aziner in the Houston area for help. It's a real easy process.

I just did mine on 04 TL. I don't think someone did this before me as I'm the 2nd owner sitting at 44K now. ATE has a good fluid.
About the price... I don't know. It cost me a bottle of Johny Walker

I always appreciate a friend who is willing to pay with booze.. lol.. I use Castrol GT LMA.. cost about $7.. I think decent BF should be around ~$6. Cheap IMO.
D,
I do all of my cars once a year, takes about a quart each car. Don't worry too much about the brand, any major DOT3/4 fluid will work fine.
What's so good about doing this often is that the bleeders won't get frozen in place due to the excercise you're giving them. Then there are all of those expensive anti-lock brake parts that are staying clean....all for about $5 bucks! This is a deal.
A nice buddy bought me one of those fluid evacuation machines from Griot's Garage that is hand pumped. On some cars you don't need to even remove a wheel to access the bleeders with this set up.
Brake fluid should look like salad oil not Pepsi. Be careful to keep the reservoir full during this operation is the only note.
