Hi, started a new thread rather than tacking on to https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/importance-rear-brake-piston-dust-boot-782797/, which didn't answer all my questions. Noob at rebuilding calipers.

When doing my rear brakes, I found a rear caliper boot out of its groove in the piston sleeve. I couldn't put it back in, so the piston is slightly exposed for the moment. I want to do the repair on the car. What will happen when the piston is pushed out - will there be brake fluid everywhere? I'll use pieces of wood in the caliper and under the pedal so nothing blows out.

Is the rebuild order (see posts 5-7 in the thread above):
- new brake fluid over everything per the service manual
- piston seal (any tools needed?)
- boot into the sleeve groove
- piston into the sleeve
- boot into piston groove

Final step is bleeding, I assume. How much fluid should I buy - 2 qts/l? Maybe I should save a few dollars and use the fluid with a cracked lid that's been in my garage for five years, lol
