Belts and hose noise on cold weather start ups?
Hey Guys,
I bought a 2005 Acura TL back in January from a Chevy dealer (I know, tisk tisk). It was a trade in and it was a good deal.
When I got the car, it would make a loud screeching noise from the engine area close to the passenger side area on cold morning starts only and would subside about 5-10 minutes into my drive. By afternoon, when I started it, it wouldn't make that noise. I took it back to them to check it out and they found nothing wrong. Also my mechanic didnt find anything as well. The dealer told me that they steam cleaned the belts and hoses when they received it as part of their preparation for resale and this was the reason for the noise when its cold outside (~50 and below).
Its now May with warmer weather and I dont hear the noise on initial start up anymore or at all. Do you guys think it was because of the steam cleaning or do you think there may be an underlying issue?
Thanks for you input.

I'm going to try to save you from throwing yourself to the wolves if you're new to this forum...
Try to use a Google search or the search area on this forum before posting questions. I know the power steering whine has been answered on here probably 3 million different times. I've been able to answer many questions just by searching over old posts and using the search function.
Usually the Google search will direct you back to the Acurazine boards and show you the thread that is pertinent to your question.

Thanks for your input. I did search months back but didnt see anything about cold weather, just the noise itself. I was checking to see if there was a correlation. Thanks!

Check to see if your TL has undergone the power steering hose and wiper motor recalls.
If not, Acura dealerships are also supposed to change out an O-ring on the [separate] power steering inlet hose from the reservoir-- it's usually that O-ring going bad that causes the power steering whine or screeching on cold starts.
If the recalls were done, change out the O-ring yourself per this thread: https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-problems-fixes-114/diy-105-power-steering-whine-fix-754586/, which is one of many DIY threads in the 3G Service Dept/ Garage (at https://acurazine.com/forums/3g-tl-2004-2008-93/3g-tl-service-department-aka-garage-questions-answers-check-here-first-553557/).
