Baking Headlights leads to condensation on actual oem HID bulb lens

not sure how this occured.. baked headlights for 10mins at 200... and condensation formed right on the actual projector lens itself.. (see pic).. now of course it has dried up and there are watermarks on the projector..

should i bother cleaning this..or leave it?

That is why I only use the oven for opening, not closing the headlight back up. The water spots bother me so I always use a heat gun to close.

yup as said above that does happens sometimes when closing the headlamps up. I assume its because the glass lens is cooler then when heat is applied it condensates up. Unfortunately only way to fix that is open it back up and clean the lens. If it were mine I would clean it because it would bother me until it fixed. It wont really negatively effect your light output, or atleast anything you will be able to notice, but you know the marks are there. I say clean it.

The only way to get the headlights back together is by using a heat gun to put everything back together. Its a lot more time consuming but atleast you wont have a dirty lens. You can also slowly warm up the headlight in the oven to allow the lens to warm very slowly so it doesnt condensate. I have done this and it works, but make sure you take plenty of time of very low temps in the oven prior to doing the full out heating.

This happened when it was put in for first time to open up. There was no preheating either. Anyways I think I'll just get a replacement for this one and leave this module as an experimentation set. I have my original 07-08 headlight assemblies still on the car. Was opening this set to clean inner lens. Was easy but this lens condensation kinda spoiled the show.

Hey man I have the same thing.

Try unplugging your fog bulb and leave your car in the sun.
Or use a hair dryer throught he fog bulb opening to try to get rid of it.

Mine only shows when the projectors are on but once they're off they look pretty perfect.

I'm just gonna leave mine though.
Not worth opening back up the headlights just to clean something to me.

hehe, hey guitarplayer..too late.. i opened it up again.. gonna re-bake without the projector lens installed.. hopefully when its out of the oven, i'm fast enough to put the projector lens in before it all begins to cool down again.

I just 'unhinged' it and cleaned it with a microfibre towel:

Did you buy more butyl or just re-use your butyl?

I'd check the heat rating on those Damp-X buckets or silica packs and think about throwing a few of those in there to help reduce the humidity and prevent condensation.

I would keep the stock silica pack and just add some more...

I used silica packs from backpacks at Wal-Mart lmao

5 in each headlight

Threw them in the same area as the stock silica pack.

success. baked the black half of the module again for 10mins...without the glass projector lens... took it out of the oven and rushed back to my construction site in the den.. slapped in the glass lens...put the 2 halves together... this time around, got a tighter seal happening.. clamped the crap out of it.. ready to rock. the glass lens is no longer clouded with water marks.
