Bad catalytic converter?

I bought my 05 tl 6mt over a year ago and have noticed recently that when i really push it, it smells like sulfur, or rotten eggs. I have gotten no check engine lights, and it still runs smooth with 99k miles, but i don't want to be stinking up the road for the poor passengers behind me. The guy who owned it before me was pretty cheap and i wouldn't put it past him to having used 87 in it. anyways does this mean that i have a bad cat, and if so what do you recommend for a new one?

a sulfur smell or a rotten egg smell does indicate your cats are going bad.

^hard to say. generally, if your cat is clogged or failing you'll get a CEL with the appropriate code.

I thought so, but i cant decide whether a cheap 50$ oe replacement or a $100 magnaflow would be best, i just don't know how long the cheap one would last

that's late in the game. that means they are clogged enough to be burning.

My car smelled fucking terrible.
