Question Autozone C-Max brake shims touching rotors

so i installed my autozone c max brakes today and it all went well except i had trouble fitting the top shims. they looked like they would touch the rotor as i was putting them in but the brake pads went in fine anyway. when i finally gave it a test run i heard an awful squeal from the shims rubbing on the rotors. thankfully i didnt have to take my wheels off again and redo the whole thing because i stuck my hand through the wheels and jiggled pulled the shim back and they stopped rubbing. im just wondering if anyone else has had this problem because it was both sides that were rubbing and both were the top shim. the bottom ones are both fine and fit snugly but there is a good amount of space on the outer part of the top shim and the brake pad. im just wondering if this has happened to anyone else or did i really mess up something and have to redo it?

will post pics tomorrow

He's probably talking about the pad retainers (#12 in this pic). The pad shims are the flat plates that go on the back of the actual brake pad.

In my experience Autozone pads are Shit. People think they are getting a deal because of the lifetime warranty. The Cmax compound is very abrasive and will eat the rotors so you will have to buy rotors sooner. My mother-in-law has already burned through two sets on her Pilot and I'm pretty sure she's gonna need new rotors again.

Quality stuff to me seems to be anything Centric makes. This is the same company that makes Stoptech brakes. They have lots of different compounds to choose from and most cost less than Auto-suck Cmax. They even sell the retainers. www.centricparts.com

I had that problem. I took them off and bent the crap out of them and reinstalled. No more scraping.

If I run these pads again, I'm just going to reuse the hardware.
