Automatic Trans Feels Like It Is Starting In 2nd Gear from start?
I noticed this "feeling" a while back...then it went away. One day I was driving home after having ran around a bit at work and stopped into the office. On the way....suddenly when I left the parking lot the car lagged as if it would not shift down to 1st gear and seemed to be starting in 2nd or something like that>? Just a boggin of the trans or something>? I could "force" it into 1st with the Sportshift mode....but if you ran in regular auto....it would bog down>? Let it sit overnight...and problem disappeared in the morning. I thought it was maybe because I had done the comptech exhaust and not did the intake....so I thought maybe it was just the oxygen starved engine....after having done the Ijen CAI mod....it came back again after highway driving yesterday for the while. It is gone again....but is it heat acting on this trans...or is it a computer problem....? What gives? Anybody else with an 05 Automatic have this happen>?
I checked with the dealer....described problem, and they said they had never heard of this on an 05 before>? Started trying to tell me it was the brakes sticking. (geez)
As if I couldnt tell if the car was braking - I mean I see the theory there, but gee....if you let off the accelerator-you should then begin to stop if your brakes are sticking - my car just glides along fine? Not a brake problem....has to be computer or trans. Anybody else have this happen or have any ideas>?

In the worse i cannot even spin out the tires even with Traction control off
They tried to clean the catalytic twice , no effect
Changing the program of the ECU, no effect
CHanging the O2 sensor, last week, i always testing it, seems good but not sure. I need to test it more
In my opinion, i think it's a tranny problem
Because if i do a lot city driving the problem occurs
if i drive 200 miles on a hyghway, without a lot of gear changing and i arrive in a town and try to drive agressivly it's ok , it's like when you take your car in the morning.
I think a lot of TLs have this issue but not a lot of people floor the car enough to be aware of the problem.

I was wondering if I was the only one! Like I said....you can force it down into first with the sportshift mode....but when it starts up...auto is useless if you are in tuned to how the car is supposed to "pull" and it is completely lacking! Then you slam in down in sportshift and it will work. It is a really weird intermittent thing.....
Yes same thing, when the problem occurs i would say 3 launches on 4 are bad. It's like you almost stall the car.
I hope some other people there could bring other points.
Always use 91 Octane fuel, i have 20 000 miles, bought it october 2004 (it's a 2005 )
One mechanic tolds me next step will be to replace all the computer that drive the engine

I must say today that i find the same symptoms despite of the modification made by Acura.
I'm going to go back to the dealer next week, i'm on the way to have my transmission changed, i think.

Yep...my dealer wants it back now too.....called and asked questions and described problem. As it is so intermittant now....and really only shows up once in a while...I am goiing to attempt to trouble shoot it myself as it seems the dealers dont know either. Has to be some type of circumstance when this happens....trans hot or something.....seems as if I could have my dealer tearing all sorts of stuff apart looking for what they have no idea....maybe will wait and let them do that to somebody elses car and figure it out...then work on mine later!

Yes...that is correct. But it will operate correctly in my car in sportshift mode. The ONLY way you can actually "force" first gear is from the right hand shift side gate (I think it says low or something if I remember)....but from there you are right back to automatic (there is no second on that side). You are right though...in sportshift mode first gear only occurs after you stop completely and the tranny resets. If you are even going 5-10mph and the tranny has shifted to 2nd gear in sportshift mode....you can practically floor it to WOT and it wont force back to 1st again until you stop...but that is the nature of this beast unfortunately. First gear in these things is almost like a granny gear or something.....helps you get up and going - but the motor seeks 2nd like a mutha! Our Lexus GS400 does the same thing....although it will force back to first...which in fact- does often make the back end come out from under you if you are getting too punchy around a corner (and dont have the skid control on like a dummy!) (can you feel I have fucked up here before and learned my lesson well - to the tune of $6500 damage...all undercarriage - slammed concrete curb and went over it...broke axel, ect, ect.) Anyway....as for the Acura - you cannot really force first gear any other way but the right hand side of the shift gate and pull all the way back towards you. I think that will hold it in first though....until you shift back to Auto - one click up...which will bring 2nd and 3rd, ect. Either way.....in the Acura...you cannot force first gear any other way. So the crux of it is you are right, you cant force first in SS mode....have to go one gate to the right to get that done, which really is not what you wanna do. BUT....in sportshift mode.....mine did get over the major bogging at dead start that I was feeling in the tranny. I have no probs lately though....making me wonder if it is a heat thing as the climate is mild lately.
My tranny is going to be changed this week, i have a tl loaner actually and there's a big difference, especially when you kickdown it it's quicker you won't feel any sliding
MICHAELBENZ it should solve the problem when you trannny is hot and you feel like it's starting on 2nd. Have it check by the dealer and be aware of strange grinding noises that may appear around 2000 rpm. There are difficult to hear
for example in D position let the car run at 20 mph and after accelerate slowly and try to set the rpm to 2000 or 2500 if you hear a little grinding some you will have something to show to your dealer.

I get these same symptoms after driving somewhat agressively on a HOT day. I think the tranny needs a transmission cooler kit. Either that or it's all these F$#@ing catylitic converters on this car. If I could get rid of 2 of the 3 cats I would be happier. Too me it feels like the car is pulling timing and is sluggish as hell.
Hey MichaelBenz I had this problem in my NBP 04 Auto. It would seem when I started off it would hesitate and then accelerate really hard.
If I put it in SS mode and I would accerlate you could watch it go from 2nd gear down to 1st gear and then back to 2nd etc...
I went to Acura four visits and they still could not figure it out b/c they "could not reproduce the problem"
so I was getting pissed anyway one day it started again and I stopped by there and made a tech hook up to the ECU and blah blah blah......... well to make a long story short it was a BRAKE SENSOR.
What this sensore does or does not do is it wasn't putting the car in first gear when I let off the brake to acclerate it would stay in 2nd gear and once it noticed I was accelerating it would downshift and then shift back quickly through 2nd etc...
Of course this was under warranty.

I m sure from the beginning it's a tranny problem, but it's difficult for HONDA to accept it. Here in Canada (province of Quebec) there's no lemon law that's why there are slower on repairing my car
