Armrest getting flat
Armrest getting flat
Ive noticed that recently my leather arm rest on the center console is wearing out quickly and getting flat. this wasn't the case when i got my car about 1.5 years ago. they were full and did not have any impressions.
i wanted to know if anyone else has this issue and actually fixed it. did you get it reupholstered?
thanks

I went with http://www.redlinegoods.com/Padding.shtm and bought the padding in addition to higher quality leather console cover. I spent less than $100 too and it's much better than OEM. They even have some nice instructions on what to do as well. It took me less than an hour to install and it was pretty easy. Do a search on this forum for additional instructions if something is not clear but the redline instructions look very good- they were not available last year when I did this mod.
i remember reading a DIY on here on how to buy new foam inserts for the arm rest, and all you had to do was just take apart the arm rest and pull out the leather and place in the foam pads and put the leather back over it
cant seem to find it in search though...

i really recommend the DIY because buying the stuff from redlinegoods is pretty expensive. all you need is just the foam padding, but redlinegoods doesn't sell the padding by itself. they only sell custom made leather arm rest covers ( for $49 ) and you have the option of adding new foam pads for as little as $19.
total for that is ~$70 shipped
thanks for the input.
so back to my question are other ppl having this same problem?
i want to know if this is something common with all TLs.
My armrest was perfect when i got the car 1.5 years ago and in the time that ive had it its worn considerably - especially in the last month..

^ummmmmm.....
think about it for a second.
you REST your arm on a thin pad, everyday.
its no different than a pillow going flat.
its no different than a computer chair going flat.
its no different than any other car makers arm rest going flat.

I went to joanne's fabrics and got 1/2" thick foam, and used 3m spray adhesive on the foam and leather like the diy suggests and for about $15 total and and hour of my time...it's better than new...
