Air Filter Screw won't loosen

Trying to replace the air filter. One of the 4 screws turns (front left), but won't loosen. It just keeps going round and round.

Anyone have this problem? What do I do?

I'm sure you've checked already, but I just have to make sure... Are you sure it's lined up properly? Perhaps they're not making contact with each other? The screw isn't damaged, right?

pry between the lid and box while unscrewing it. You may break something so be careful

need help

okay. . . I read on a civic site that this is fairly common. During the previous change, it was overtightened. No more jiffy lube!! I will never go back. More problems than the time saved.

The civic posts say to try to pull on it, while turning the screw. I did that with needle nose plyers, but to no avail.

What do I do? How about drilling it out??

A buddy of mine has the same problem on his 04 Tl, his problematic screw is located at the front right and you can clearly see that the bottom half of the air filter housing plastic is cracked which has enabled the socket to spin with the screw.

I told him to order a new bottom housing (approx $40) and then I am going to have to remove the battery and cut the fucker out with a grinder...if you are lucky you might be able to use some vice grips to hold the socket while you back out the screw!
