Advice to recover from broken bolts in license plate holder

Long story short, I have nylon bolts holding my license plate on my 2008 TL. Both of them have broken inside the license plate mount on the trunk of the car (the heads have sheered completely off). Can I simply remove the large hex nut in which they are now stuck and replace it with a new kit? Any schematics, part numbers or videos would be appreciated.

Buy a bolt extractor kit from home depot/sears/harbor freight and it'll take it right out. Don't move the nuts! They are not to be moved!
