Acura helping with replacement of my transmission
So I have a 2004 Acura TL with 54K miles. I have a transmission whine while accelerating through 1st and 2nd gear. Unfortunately I never purchased the extended warranty. Well after going through two dealers, I've ended up at Santa Monica Acura who explained my case to Acura, and have come up with a 75/25 deal. Acura will cover 75% of a transmission replacement and I will cover the other 25%. This will come out to about $1100 on my part which seems rather high but they are helping. Also I'm not 100% sure, but I think this might be a refurbished transmission. I'm not sure if I should just leave it or follow up with Acura and try to get them to cover it all. Any thoughts?

i would talk to acura ... but if nothing comes out of it i would just pay the 1100 and not push to much as they are covering 75 percent of the cost which is not too shabby IMO ofcourse

Is it AT or MT?
My 04 tl had the transmission fail before 50k. But I then later found out that the AT's fail pretty commonly. got on extended warranty on my TL till 140k.

having just delt with American Honda about my Pilot transmission, I will say you're are lucky that: 1. you got a 75/25 offer out of warranty (considering you tend drop a ton of service money at one particular dealer), and 2. You're dealing with Acura and not Honda.
Acura problems seem to get better attention than Honda's with similar problems, which I guess you're paying for when you buy the one with the "A" symbol on the hood that cost you 10% more than the "H" symbol.
Just know that at any time they can pull their offer and tell you to pack sand. They have no obligation and have done it to more than a few.

lol... R&R costs $4400?!.. Ask them if you get to keep the core with that price. ![Roll Eyes](https://acurazine.com/forums/images/smilies/rolleyes.gif)
Take the deal.. they don't crate AT's, they reman them but you shouldn't worry about that. You should get a 3YR / 36K mile warranty on it as well.

Well got the car back with a new transmission installed! Drives like a dream, plus having the extended warranty coverage on the tranmission lets me sleep better at night. My experience dealing with Santa Monica Acura has been better than expected. And to top it off, it didn't cost me $1100 as quoted earlier. They charged me $950 instead. I'm don't know where they were able to drop off the extra $150, but I'm starting to think that it was because I paid them for the diagnosis fee's.
My advice would be that if you are really close to your warranty expiration or slightly over, and have been experiencing a transmission whine, I would head to the Acura dealer and have them diagnose it. You have a good chance of having them share the cost of replacing the tranny if needed. Keep in mind that the first Acura dealer I stopped at said that there was no problem with the transmission.
