Absolutely Dead

Drove this morning to the dog park. Was thinking that at 117K this car has been super reliable..............Come out of the park and the key fob does not function. WTH? fob battery? Pop off my lock cover and open lock with key. Open door and there are no sounds no lights whatsoever! Insert key, no change turn key and no change. seemingly no voltage getting to electrical system. checked terminal connections and under hood fuse box, no issues.

Had to walk dog home at this point and leave car for later

I have never had a battery just completely fail to 0 voltage output. I expect some light, buzz or something faint............nothing.

Will attempt a jump later.

Any ideas?

I just remembered that when I was pulling into the lot that my power window was going up much slower than normal...............that was a little strange.

Failing alternator or battery or maybe you left a light on or something?

Probably just a bad battery. Our '04 has only had the original and one replacement in 12 years.

I had an OEM battery completely die on me in my 04 TL. Very similar to you described. Absolutely nothing worked - like someone had removed the battery. Replaced under warranty and good to go.

A friend of mine had similar symptoms on an '09 Impreza. It took prolonged charging (30-45 minutes) to give the car enough juice to jump.

Actually this just happened to me on the 8th. Was taking car to the dealer for a ball joint under warranty and when I went to start it to leave my house, it was completely dead. Then when I tried to jump it, the alarm would go off as soon as I touched the leads to the battery. After figuring that issue out, I went and bought a battery and installed it and it has been fine ever since.

undo the battery again for 20-30 mins and hopefully that'll reset it.
