ABS Engaging Prematurely

I have an '05 TL AT.

When I press the brakes going over bumps, I can hear a clunking sound and feel the ABS brakes engaging. I take the same bumps with an '03 Maxima and an '04 Mazda 6 and an '06 MX5 and the issues are not there.

Any of you have the same problem?

Its the nature of the TL. Its ABS kicks in way too early and its normal for this car.

Interesting, can anyone confirm? I too feel that the ABS kicks in way too early especially during turns. Could the stock tire being part of the problem?

With a stiff suspension and as the wheel/tire lifts off the ground with the slight impact, that particular wheel will nautrally lock up when in the air, or when the weight is off the tire, so the ABS will kick in to try and keep the wheels spinning at the same RPM.

I've started threads about this. IMO, the TL's ABS really holds it back performance wise. I've beaten the ABS by a substantial margin with it disabled. Once you add sticky tires you learn to never invoke ABS because once it starts it just goes crazy and you lose a lot of your braking. If you can keep it right at that point before it triggers it's a little better but still too conservative.

The worst is trail braking. I've had just the inside front want to lock and ABS reduced pressure to all 4 tires completely screwing up any hopes of getting a quick lap time.

I saw that thread you started IHC. It really sucks when you are just making a gradual turn at higher speed (55ish) and brake at the same time, the ABS kicks in and it feels like you are losing it. It's even worse when you need to make a sudden stop during a turn in the mid 20's. For some reason it happens more when you are going down hill or through a dip. I guess there is really not much you can do about it? What's the ABS recovering time?
