95% sure im buying a TL this weekend, need advice Newbie here
I found a 05 black 3.2 tl this week and am in love. its black on black with aspec full kit, tanabe exhaust, intake, brembos, navi, and best of all a MT. the guy wants a reasonable price for it too 13,500 it has 90k on it. my question is should i jump on this? and also does anyone know what the maintenance schedule is I have googled it and cant find it in the owners manual online. I am going to try and get his price down because im sure its about due for timing belt and plugs and all that. thanks for any info you guys can give me and hopefully ill be on these forums a lot more here soon. i have loved the 04-08 tl ever since it was released and have wanted one since.

kBB, edmund's and cars.com. make price comparisons as to what would be fair for your area.
things to consider...@105K or about that...need the whole timing belt service. if he's got service history on car that's a plus. make sure all the recalls have been done. car fax...(though not always complete).
get the car checked out if possible at an indy shop to make sure there are no other major issues with car (brakes/fluids/tires/suspension).
just do your homework on price, get the car checked out to make sure its clean and in good shape mechanically, if you actually get it...enjoy!

Be sure you check the 6MT for the famous 3rd gear issue. Ask him what recalls/TSBs have been performed on the car. Has he used the GM fluid in the 6MT? Is he an Azine member?
Review the TSB page (Go to the "Problems" section and click on the sticky post at the top of the page) so you know what TSBs apply to that car.
Here's a link to the 04 owner's manual:

04-06 odometers are off by 5% (they read high). So at 110,250 on the ODO, a TB and spark plug change will be due. TB parts are about $225 and SPs are about $60 on sale. A dealer will charge you anywhere from $600-$1100 to do a TB change. Also probably should replace the drive belt (serpentine belt). You can do that yourself, costs about $30.

Time to do some due diligence, I've given you the info/links that you need. Also do a search for "3rd gear" on this forum.

the infamous 3rd gear issue...yes its all over this forum. i haven't swapped my MT fluid as of yet, since my 3rd gear hasn't annoyed me to the point of doing it. though i will say i may have to get that done...its starting to get annoying. the 3rd gear can potentially pop out of the gear or be difficult to engage while shifting. mine has only popped out like 2-3x over the life of the car while it can be a bit knotchy to engage at times when shifting while i drive. it really doens't matter if you drive easy or aggressively, the 3rd gear can become cranky at anytime.
there is a TSB to "fix" it. though members that have had it done, have had mixed results.
the 3rd gear issue is not exclusive to the TL. its been known with other honda MT as well. my 91 civic HB way back when...had a bit of tempermental 3rd gear at times. didn't pop out though.
most of the answers to the questions/issues with our cars can be found in this forum. you just need to research and do a lot of reading. GL.

UPDATE: well today i had my dad check out the car and take it for a drive. he said everything looks great, it has a newer battery in it, new alternator, the only thing that will need done soon is the rear brakes, anybody have an idea what those will run me since they are brembos? other than that we got on it a little bit today and drove it more aggresive, third gear and all gears for that matter seemed fine, shifted smooth as can be. I negotiated the price down to 13k and i think that's as low as hes gonna go on it as hes not in a rush to sell. does anyone on here have a carfax hookup? I want to pull one on it this weekend but if someone can do it for me i'll paypal you 5 bucks or something for doing me a favor. Vin # is 19UUA65585A024023 thanks again everybody, looks like ill be the proud owner of my first TL early next week.

Rear brakes aren't brembo. read up on the brake diy's in the service dept (3g garage).

sorry if im wrong but they say brembo on them, im sure the rotors are probably just some knockoff drilled/slotted, im thinking maybe the guy just painted a brembo on them maybe to match the fronts. hey its good news for me, means it will be cheaper to replace.

Then a prior owner replaced the calipers. The manual TL you're considering came with Brembos in the front only and they didn't say "Brembo". They say "Acura".

ok it sounds like this guy may have upgraded the fronts to the type s brembo's then, and not sure whats the deal with the rears. tell you what when i buy the car next week ill post pics of them so everybody can see im sure that'd be a lot easier than going back and forth getting on everybodys nerves :-) thanks again errrrbody
