6MT - Steering stiff at idle

At idle speeds (give or take), such as when pulling in and out of parking spots, steering has become hard. It's like there is no power assist. If I tap the accelerator to bring engine revs to around 1k, power assist returns. Is this normal?

I've checked the power steering fluid, and the level looks fine. Any ideas why this is happening? Its not a big deal at the moment, but if its a major malfunction, I'd like to bring it into the dealer.

If its nothing major, I would prefer not to take it in so that the mechanics don't violate her Plus, I haven't fully wrapped up my carpc and audio mods, so I don't want them to see my messy wiring in progress and void the warranty or otherwise give me crap about it.

Thanks for the help!

After checking the fluid level first as you already did, I would check the tension of the belt.

Thanks guys.

I'll take a look at the belt tension before dropping it off at the dealer.
