Hmm.. I need to rephrase my question. I want to reconnect the shift boot to the shifter. It's just hanging there not held on by anything. Is there some sort of clip I'm missing?

I know this one......A zip tie! Yeah, I was shocked when I saw it too. The boot is held to the silver ring by a small white zip tie on the inside, the silver ring is held to the knob with clips attached on the knob. When I changed knobs, I used super glue to bind the boot to the silver ring. It sounds ghetto but if done properly, only you will be able to tell the difference. I super glued the leather to the ring, used a zip tie on the outside to hold it together and made sure not to drive the car for a day or so to give the glue time to cure. After that, I cut the tie on the outside and drove away.

Take a look:

Here is a pic of the bottom of the knob for reference.

Ugh.. I had a feeling it was going to be something like that. So, you're saying that there's supposed to be a zip-tie on the inside of the boot? That's exactly what I was thinking of doing to fix the thing. I think I'd rather replace the zip tie than glue it.

So, of course my next question is how to remove the shifter surround to get to the backside of the shift boot? I tried lightly pulling on it, but I didn't want to break anything.

Thanks for the replies

The leather folds the bottom of the silver ring and the zip tie is under it. To get to it, you will need to remove the center console and the entire boot from the shifter. That is why I went with the super glue option. It is kinda hard to explain but if you remove your knob, you will see exactly what I'm talking about.

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm horrible at gluing things, so I think I'm going to ziptie it. Now I'm off to find out how to remove the center console and pray I don't break anything in the process

Thanks again.
