6MT owners - grease the gates?
6MT owners - grease the gates?
This might sound like an odd question, coming from a 1st time manual owner.
Do any of you guys take out the shifter boot to grease the shifter gates? I am trying to eliminate the noise my shifter makes when I shift.

Nope. Never heard anything concerning. Sometimes a positive "thunk" when downshifting into 3rd. By positive I mean a good solid feeling it's in the gear as opposed to the "mush" some other cars give as feedback.

Hardly sounds/feels cheap to me. Actually sounds/feels as if there's intentional detents engineered into the gates for real feedback. One friend actually commented how nice they thought it was. Then again I did come from a Saab and their shifter feel is about the worst.
I know exactly what you mean. In fact, I've been meaning to post the same question for months now. I've had three manual trans. accords that all shifted great without this clicking sound that my TL has. I think it's something right under the leather boot that needs grease. I just haven't had time to figure out how to get at that area yet.
Check this thread out on how to get to the shifter assembly.

I have a '07 TL-S 6MT and I think I know what you mean. The shifting makes a lot more noise than my friends Hundai tiburon does. It's kind of annoying.
I've been researching this lately... and have you tried changing the transmission fluid over the the GM Syncromesh- Friction Reduced? I'm thinking of doing that this week.

Yes, I am going to switch to the GM fluid soon. But this cheap sounding noise is definitely coming from the shifter/console and I wonder if that fluid would make any difference on that.
