6 Speed tranny/clutch problem??????
hey fellas....so i have a 04 tl manual...Sunday i was coming back from Pa. I was doing about 80 or 85 in 6th gear...I then went and pushed the gas pedal to accelerate when i noticed my rpms went up and then back down...i tried to do it again but this time it didnt do it...so i pulled over and made sure all my gears were able to go in and out and it was fine...so i got back on the highway going through all gears and wot and it was fine.
So today coming back from work, it did it again in 6th gear.I then down shifted in to 5th and pressed the gas pedal and now the rpms went up in 5th gear
I did do the gm syncromesh about 10k miles ago..it is very cold here in CT...
Do you guys think the weather could have something to do with it or is my clutch starting to slipp?...i do have 140k on the car and origanal clutch...Maybe i should try changing the fluid again?...Let meknow what you guys think?...Thanks

If your description is accurate, your clutch is slipping. How many miles on the car? Are you the original owner?
As you can see I have an '04 manual TL and will be turning 90,000 miles within the week. I expect to get at least another 100,000+ miles out of the factory OEM clutch, but will most likely not keep the car that long.
Oh, and the clutch assembly has nothing to do with the transmission. They are two completely separate entities so whether or not you used GMSFM fluid has nothing to do with the clutch.

My slow ua6...I don't remember you... Where in ct you from?... How long have you been driving with a slipping clutch???... I need to figure out how long I can drive like this until I put some money together

if you cant do it as soon as possible, you need to drive very carefully and accelerate very slowly. The more you slip the clutch like that, the more you ruin your flywheel which in the end will cost you more $$

i just got a quote from the acura dealer and they want $2356.00 i think that is way to much but its a dealer..that price includes clutch kit, flywheel, labor and tax...what you guys think?
My clutch has been slipping since the car was purchased in October I have an extended warrenty so I ust need to find time to bring it in, I remember u sent sent me a link to your wheels when I was on ctvtec, u commented on my thread.
Talk to the dealer and get a price breakdown (labor & individual parts). The Acura clutch is made by LUK, and you can buy the EXACT same parts in a kit for ~$180 on ebay. Tell the dealer you want to provide the OEM parts or see if they will match that price (they won't). Now your only stuck with their cost of labor which now won't include any premiums they try to sneak in on parts (they always charge higher than MSRP). BTW: Also get a quote at the Honda dealer. This is the same clutch on the Accord V6 Coupe 6MT. Get a total quote first, and then have them break it down for you BEFORE talking about using your own parts.

Yes. Pictures of peoples old worn-out clutches on this forum have shown it again and again. Exact same parts without the HONDA premium packaging. BTW: MSRP on that flywheel is almost $500 bucks now. If you DO need one, $300 is a great price (even with $39 shipping).
Or you could order them both separately (from the two links I provided) and save another $53 ($42 + $11 shipping). Kinda doesn't make sense not to.
You should probably go to the Honda dealer and ask. There are bunch of special tools required to install the self-adjusting pressure plate. The diaphragm needs to be compressed before you tighten the bolts or the mechanism can be permanently damaged (according to the Acura/Helm shop manual).

Did you order/install your clutch/flywheel combo as of yet? If so, what are your initial impressions? Had the clutch on my 04 go out on me yesterday and doing my due diligence.
All input would be helpful.

i went to a website called carolina clutches.com ....they have the luk clutch kit and the luk flywheel. Luk is the origanal maker of our parts but honda just stamps their name on things. the dealer is charging me $880 for labor. also included in that price is changing out the rear main seal

well, i just got home from picking up my car from the dealer. All i gotta say is, WOW!!!...what a difference. At first the clutch pedal felt hard but as i was driving and shifting, the pedal adjusted. My car deff pulls10x better and shifts really really nice
is the shifter less notchy feeling?
I have a TL with 66k miles (52k of those miles were not driven by me) and I cant really tell if my clutch is in the greatest of condition--it doesnt slip but just something that nags me is I dont know how hard the people before me drove it. I'm paranoid of it giving out any time but since it's a SAC i have no real way to tell..

In. Thanks OP for posting and thanks to those that contributed on the cost-saving parts info!
My clutch is not acting up at all, but at 86k miles (bought it with 53k), it's been in the back of my mind as just one of those nagging concerns. Not troubling, just back there waiting. I just hope there isn't a perfect-storm, double whammy thing with my 105k service and clutch at the same time. I'd like to have a half year or year of having the car paid off before getting hit with those big expenses.
