5AT Filter Cartridge
#45
This was answered several times in this thread. The filter is not replaceable on the 07-08 TL unless you drop the transmission. Best thing to do is put an inline filter to catch the crap and stay up on your ATF changes.

One tip, get a ratcheting wrench. Something like this

the problem with not replacing them is not so much in the filter getting dirty
it'll be dirty in 5K miles
the real problem is - they come unglued
Acura is aware of the problem, but it's not widespread enough for them to act
plus it happens after the warranty is long gone
the white epoxy that holds the paper to the metal cracks and falls apart with time
once the pieces get into the banjo bolt and restrict the flow, you can kiss you clutches goodbye as that's the cooler return line and your AT will overheat
that's how my 4th gear clutches died
now i have an aftermarket cooler with magnefile inline and the stock filter out of the system completely
inline is a little easier to replace and the magnet in it catches more junk
the 07 and up filters look almost the same, and may act the same way, we'll see when people start to get to higher mileage
the difference is, Acura went out of the way to hide the problem, you can't even get to the darn filter without opening the AT
my 09 Ody has it the same way, so i run 2 ATF coolers on it, to keep the AT cooler and keep the darn filter from aging too soon

For those who don't believe it, here it is. Remove the stock air box and look for the cover on the trans with three bolts and a fluid line attached.

And here's the old and new filters.

Yes, you loose enough fluid to make a good mess. I changed mine after I drained the ATF, but looking at the location of the filter (at the highest point) I don't think it would keep flowing if you did it full.
I like pics, so I thought I'd help others who share the same feeling.
