300 miles and clutch is slipping?

I just traded my 03 CLS for an 06 TL and already have a problem on the 3rd day.

When I shift into third gear @ about 60 mph (redline 2nd) 3rd gear feels like it is slipping and I get that nasty clutch smell. I did this only twice. I know there is a break in period but. It did it once and I had to try again to see if it would do it again or if maybe I was just out of my mind. Why would my clutch slip already? and yes I know how to drive a stick been doing it since I was 16.

I have an '05 and mine did the exact same thing (without the smell). I tried it right after break-in and it was pretty noticeable. Now that I have some more miles under the belt it doesn't seem as noticeable. I was expecting that this car would at least "chirp" 3rd gear as all the Nissan's I've drove do but I guess not.

It's not how much power you have but how you lay the power down. There is a damping device in the clutch hydraulic circuit. It slows the release (take up) of the clutch. If you push it you may slip it on aggressive shifts. At red-line, that's "gonna leave a mark". The "slipping" seems to diminish with break in but that may be the driver getting used to it and the clutch bedding in.

Doing what you did to a brand new clutch is a bit curious to me. But I guess if you get new cars every 3 year what the hell.

IHMO the 6MT 3GTL does not like to be speed shifted at all. Get your timing down and be smooth and the car will reward you for it. If a car can "chirp" or not means nothing. If a driver "chirps" or not means everything. I can't think of much of anything else that puts as bad an impulse through the entire drive train.

You could have been trashing clutches since you were 16 too for all we know. What's your highest mileage on a clutch? >100Kmi ? >150Kmi?

Sorry, just the way I see it.

I'm just saying that I know I haven't been making my Clutch for 300 miles and made it go out. I was just wondering if there is any known prob with the clutches. Its not like I have been mashing on the car I just excellerated a few times to see how it did and I was like "that doesn't seem right," but I have never broke in a clutch before either.

have same thing with my '05

i guess they did not fix the common problem that the 6MT '05s had. a thread to check out is: https://acurazine.com/forums/car-parts-sale-361/fs-stock-2003-16-w-tires-132465/ . there are several other threads like this that may help you out. i did not realize it was a common issue until i started looking around on this site a few days ago.

When I first got my car, the clutch was very tight... then one day with about 800 miles it didn't engage 3rd, and same thing, I smelled clutch for 3 days.

The pedal also started feeling more "light" to me after this happened (like an old civic or something). Took it to the dealer because I thought something was screwed up, but they test drove it and said it was fine... and felt like every other TL to them.

I wonder if there's a "break-in" period for the clutches or something like that which may affect their feel?

I prefer the feel and engagement of clutch's from yesteryear - the old 5.0 clutches and related actuation felt more reassuring to me.
