217K mile valve adjustment measurements

2004 TL 6MT @ 217K miles, figured I'd share my valve lash measurements. This was first time I have adjusted the valves on this car and have owned it since 66K miles. I do not believe previous owner performed this adjustment, as it was not in any of the records that came with vehicle.

Overall, INT valves loosened up over time by .003 to .005 inches. EXH valves were within specification, but at minimal.

INT spec .008 - .009 inches
EXH spec .011 - .013 inches

BEFORE:
INT valves, range .011 - .013 inches.
EXH valves, range .011 - .013 inches.

AFTER:
INT valves set to .008 inches
EXH valves set to .012 inches

Engine was never very noisy, but it does idle smoother and have better off-idle throttle response. Also, seems to accelerate smoother in general.

My wife even noticed the difference after the valve lash adjustment driving it to work and I didn't even ask her to evaluate.

Thanks for sharing - seems to support other knowledgeable opinions that many will not need the valve adjustment every 105k miles. I'm at 115k, after doing the timing belt at 110k, and will probably hold off unless I hear the valves...

Very surprised that the exhaust valves didn't tighten, as seen by most other cases on the J32.

My intakes were out of spec by 0.001" after 106K miles, so 0.002"-0.004" for 217K miles is a little beyond a linear change.

The main unknown is exactly where the valves were set at the factory.

Other research I've read states Honda V6, the intake valves tend to loosen up over time. This is my first Honda V6, but I'm not new to Hondas in general.

My experience has been that the older 4 cylinders and newer K-series tend to tighten up over time in general, especially exhaust valves. I've worked on B, D, F, H, K and J-series engines.
