2008 auto trans starting to fail

Lucky me, noticed that my car is starting to slam a shift now and then and the other day started the car and put in drive to pull away and it just rev'd first before moving, i.e. slipped. Very disappointed and at a crossroads I know what is most likely brewing and probably either have to get ready for a rebuild bill or just dump it. I am at 63k miles and the car is so clean it looks like the day I bought it due to my OCD.

Anyone do a rebuild or replacement on a 2008 base TL that minds letting me know what they paid for a rebuild whether at a dealership or private shop?

I changed the ATF fluid at 58k miles if memory serves and it was like motor oil, never a good sign. Thing that really aggravates me is this car is driven like a grandma and the majority of the mileage was highway due to a previously long commute.

Not sure what to do with the car and weighing options.

Yeah, I was wrong in my thinking, I had the 4 year/50k mile limited warranty in my brain but looking at the window sticker the powertrain goes 6 year /70k miles. I bought in august 2008 and it has 63k miles, hopefully if it is going to die it does it soon and they can eat it. I will be past the 70k miles by spring most likely.

I have read the pressure switches were an issue in the 04-06 does anyone have info if they are a culprit in the 07-08's?
Worth changing or most likely just prolong an impending failure at this point?

I can build and maintain a 10 sec turbo street car for 10 years but i don't have a clue what to do with this car.

I have a 2008 base also. I think the pressure sensors should be changed on 07/08 5AT as well, from what I have read on here they are just as prone to wear and tear/failure as the ones on the 04/06 trannys. Rare to hear about an 07/08 tranny failure.

If it slipped like that there should be a stored code that Acura can pull. have them look at it now.

If it slipped already then the damage is already done. Replacing the switches isn't going to help. Time to contact Acura to get the replacement started.. Technically your tranny has already "failed".

Unfortunately dealer will not take customers word and unless the car does the symptom all the time or comes in on tow truck with trans totally shot they have mothinf to address in their eyes. I will drive and hope it progresses before the warranty is up. I have a feeling this may not take long to get worse, or so I really hope. Like it was stated it has begun already, failure in motion.

Very disappointing I used to hold Hondas in such a high regard. I hope this doesn't carry over into my wife's 2008 MDX transmission as well. It has about the same mileage. Just drove it 500 miles to OH.

Yeah, I'm really considering an MDX in the future and I hope as well that these tranny issues don't crop up in them.. Of course, by the time I'm in the market it will be redesigned, so a new "tranny" to deal with all over again, instead of one that is tried and true..

I came from an old CB7, honda cars really aren't built like they used to be, but then again, they got a hell of a lot more complicated. Honda is a motor company and that is one thing that is still bullet proof. Their motors are great. The tranny's...not so much lately......
If the dealer has to see it fail, shiet. Drive it hard and speed up the dmg, so you can get it fixed under warranty.

Yeah, if you're time limited with your warranty, I'd drive it like I stole it! It sounds as the tranny technically has already begun to fail. You'd be just speeding up the process for the dealer to acknowledge the failure.

I'd rather trade the car in than deal with major mechanical issues.
Really hate to have payments again, TL still looks like brand new.
Wonder if Lexus has these quality issues?
Tried the BMW and that car lived in the service department.
Detroit 3 are self explanatory, have a 2010 vette with leaking oil pan and a wheel bearing already replaced in first 9k miles.
Can't win and a Lexus would be big money.

Disconnect a couple of trans switches and drive it. Check engine light will come on and store codes. Plug them back in and go to dealer and mention it shifts poorly and light came on.

I'd get on record now that you are having issues. Therefore if it goes completely after warranty, you might have a fighting chance.

This. This is exactly what I did and I even did multiple fluid flushes at the dealership. Once the tranny failed, they couldn't claim that I wasn't doing my part. Also, it certainly helped my cause that I started to complain (even without any actually issue that had cropped up yet) well before.
