2008 Acura TL Type S 6MT P0171

Hey fellow aziners I have a 2008 Acura TL Type S that I have owned for the past 2 years. When I bought the car at my local Acura dealer the car had a check engine light and before buying the car the dealer replaced (purge control valve, front and rear O2 sensors) after that check engine light has not come on until maybe for the past two months the P0171 code would come on my Nav screen and I would go clear the code and it would not come on for at least 3 weeks. The only time the code is triggered is when the car is idling after it has warmed up. Before taking it to have it looked at I just want to see if you guys can give me suggestions or lead me in the right direction. My thoughts are either fuel pressure or intake manifold leak? But not completely sure. Thanks in advance

Pretty sure if its a tsb they will pay for it. If not, the fix should take them 20 min so I wouldn't think it would cost you too much.

TSB are up to goodwill consideration. If the dealership feels like charging you (usually they do) they will. Goodwill money is given by Honda to the dealships to be spent on "good" clients that might come back or come often.

Seeing as we're a bunch of car fiddlers and a bunch of us buy at most Acura parts from our dealers without giving them any job on our cars, that's why I say they will usually charge you.

^^^^ This. TSBs are not necessarily waranty work, but can be considered for goodwill work as polobunny has mentioned.

Ok took the TL to the stealership and they told me my car had the latest update for the ECU and at first I didn't believe them so the service advisor took me to the bay and let the tech show me. The tech told me that it could be that the valves need to be adjusted or that I need a intake manifold gasket that could be leaking and causing the lean code. He recommended to do both for a whopping $1800. I politely said no and will do the job myself. What do u guys think?

Valve adjustment and IM gaskets for 1800$? Does this include an all inclusive 5-day/night get away to the Caribbean?

You can change the gaskets yourself for cost of parts (Less then 100$). Just make sure you follow TQ specifications for re-installing the intake manifold.
