I use the transmission dipstick to fill it up. Easier. People have trouble breaking that fill bolt loose. I took a pen and removed the ink so i just have a plastic tube and taped it to a funnel which is now my tranny funnel.

Also seems very weird to me that your trans would burn that much fluid in such a short amount of time... I have never had to add oil or tranny fluid for that reason.... Had two TLs over 5-6 yrs.

Nothing a breaker bar, some extensions, and a pipe can't handle.

just pop them loose with a pipe as cheater bar. I don't know why people over tighten the dam fill bolt.

I'm going to the dealer again at 5:00 tonight. Not leaving until they agree to replace my transmission. Wish me luck!

Just got back. I spoke to the Service manager, two service advisors and the General manager. It looks like things are going to go in my favor.

They haven't come out and said it but it's their only option. After 5 minutes on the interstate doing 70 mph I had to roll all the windows down because the burning smell from the transmission was so intense. I hit traffic shortly after so it didn't get a chance to fully explode before I got there. They're going to look at it and give me call tomorrow with their decision. I'll keep the thread updated.

^^^I think it may be the pressure from inside the AT tightening up the bolt. I remember a former regular poster on here who lives locally here in KC telling me that. Sounds about right....

I don't think there is any pressure build up. I could see expanding and contracting due to temps causing it to get "tighter" the more it happens.

Got a call and the service manager said that it was 3/4 of a quart low on ATF due to an air pocket and that everything is fine. I told them that they can expect a call from my attorney...

First it has a fail safe. Now it was an air pocket... There are moving components in the transmission that will eliminate said "air pocket". These guys must take you for a fool!

Good for you OP. Dishonesty in business practices has to be dealt with. I will pray about your situation.

These guys must think you were born yesterday OP. Take'em down.

They are trying to protect themselves.

I guess something else was messed up and they tried to cover it up by saying something like "Oh don't worry, it's just air pocket".

It might been something simple but caused by them too. Once in my shop one guy did double gasket on oil filter so oil was dripping on the floor. Car pulled out and came right back in. Was low quarter or something, fixed, cleaned, out again. Customer saw it as asked for it, our boss lied that he just spilled some oil when he was pouring it. Why not tell the truth?

Good thing you have an attorney. Keep going and they should finally fix your car. Hopefully they won't "make things work".

I would also suggest going to some Trans shops and getting quotes for rebuild/replacement.

I picked up the car and I will proceed legally later. I had to pick it up because I didn't want them reporting the 2017 RDX loaner I had as stolen or to start charging me for it

None as of now. I consulted with my attorney and he said to wait until the car starts having issues again and then he will contact the dealer. My car is running great right now but not sure how long its going to last...

Hell nah, I have no problem open my fill bolt and that because I tighten on the previous drain and fill. I never had problem with the fill bolt backing out after hand tighten. I bet you anything that dealer tech got lazy and using the air wrench/ratchet instead of regular socket and ratchet.

Well after much thought I think I'm going to just sell the car. It has honestly treated me terribly during the 7 months of ownership, not including the transmission. Since June, it's required over $2,500 in maintainence and repairs which is just insane! If I throw in both sets of tires to the total it's nearing $4,600!! I have an appointment at CarMax tomorrow and I'm going to see what they'll offer me. I'm hoping for $7,500 to $8,000. As for the replacment, I'm looking at a 2008 BMW 328xi coupe with 63,000 miles and 1 previous owner. This is my first and last Honda product I'll ever own which is such a shame because I really wanted to love this car...

This was EXACTLY my thought as well. OP why do you feel that a BMW will be any easier for you? But honestly I echo your sentiments about your car with mine.

I plan on keeping the BMW for about 5 yesrs or so. My brother has had a 2006 325xi sedan sine Janauary 2013 that he bought with 67,000 miles. It now has over 96,000 miles and has been mostly problem free. I do good amount of work on his car so I'm pretty confident in my wrenching skills on the 3 series of that generation.

Then your call man. I have pretty much had it with my MDX as well and can't wait to move on to another brand.

good luck, waterpumps on those bmws are $500-600 for aftermarket. Interior is dated. POS really.
The BMW dealer costs will be more insane. Basic things like differential oil change will add up quick.
You need to seek out good independent mechanics in your local area. Google maps has reviews of the good mechanics.

lol youre getting rid of your TL because its too expensive to maintain but you want a used BMW? lol no logic there.

your TL has just cost you that much money most likely because you bought the car without really looking at it first, and as a consequence, bought a lemon. I bought my 2007 TL at 78K miles in June 2014. January 2017 and 109k miles and all that it's cost me is the usual oil changes, two alignments, and 2 new tires. Still drives as great as the day it rolled off factory.

2 Sets of tires in 7 months? Was this due to an issue?

What had to be replaced that amounted to > $2500?

The BMW will be about twice as much for maintenance. My last TL I put on 55k in 3 years with very little issues considering this was from 140k to 195k in my hands. I'd say they are pretty damn reliable!

BMW oil change alone already at $150. 15 quarts with oil changer interval at every 15k miles, this price will increase if you have the //M car.

I did my due diligence of research before I bought a car, knowing what common things can occur and common issues. Yes I was unlucky and had my transmission remanned but it's driven like a dream ever since. I drove hondas my whole life. 96 integ til I got jacked and totaled for 4 years, a 98 Honda Accord for 6 years with 250k miles on it. Never a major issue that couldn't be fixed for less than $100. But a BMW over a Honda? smh...
